Perhaps it was all too soon? Sometimes, you may be with someone for a few years and feel no different to how you felt when you first got together. Then at other times you might be with someone for a few months and feel totally different to how you did when it all started. It's all a little strange isn't it? How everything is different despite us all living on the same planet.
Think, you might be with someone right now, boyfriend, girlfriend, whatever, and you might think you will spend the rest of your life with them, but in reality you might not have even met your true love yet. They could be living a town away, county, country or even continent. Who knows?
But wait! Whose to say true love even exists? You could have a 'true love' but then fall for someone later on in life. Just because you think they might be the one doesn't mean they are.
Or does it?
Bill ran a hand through his long hair that he had neglected to tie up. Harley was having a shower after they had returned from work one evening and he was pacing in the living room. Lately he had been feeling funny, and it was only around Harley or if somebody like Roger or Asa mentioned her. Ever since she was missing but actually in a tomb, he had felt this way. It was strange, gut-wrenching, and made his heart beat faster. He had listed all of the possibilities, sickness, not liking her anymore, but one thing he was caught up on was, love.
Was it love?
Bill had never been in love before. He knew the feeling of love, between family but actually being in love with someone? No way and he felt that before. The man also knew the way his brother, Charlie, was in love with his best friend Nancy, but the way that Charlie was and felt is nothing how Bill felt towards Harley. Could that mean it isn't love? Love comes in all kinds of different ways, nobody's love is the same. Right?
Harley was on the last step of the stairs when she tripped over a loose piece of carpet, that's when the familiar feeling erupted in Bill's stomach as he lunged forward grabbing her arm, stopping her from face planting the floor. It was as if his heart was nearly ripped from his chest, a knife was piercing his gut. It was an awful pain. Harley, however, giggled at her clumsiness and thanked Bill for catching her.
Bill's eyebrows knitted together in confusion, and he looked her up and down. "How are you laughing?"
"What?"
Bill repeated himself, holding her shoulders, "you could've really hurt yourself then, how are you laughing?" His fingers entangled in the loose strands of freshly washed hair that fell over the young woman's shoulders.
"It was what? Four inches? I don't think I'd have done much damage, Will, you need to stop worrying. You'll wrinkle quicker and you've been worrying a lot lately." She replied packing her hands on his chest, her finger tips grazing his shirt buttons. "Why're you worrying so much? Is everything okay with your family?"
"Everything is fine as far as I know. I guess it's just you. Ever since the tomb incidence I keep getting this sickly feeling and I don't know what it is..."
Harley's eyes closed for a moment, longer than a blink, and she pursed her lips, her eyes opening as she spoke. "You don't need to worry about me. I am a big girl, you just need to relax, eat some chicken casserole that is cooking, and we can snuggle up and play a game or watch a movie, read a book. Whatever you want. Listen to some music? Anything for you to chill and forget about your troubles. It shouldn't happen again, and if it does so be it. You'll know where to check, you never know it could be the other way round."
Staring at the shorter being in front of him, Bill nodded, sighing in defeat knowing that she was in fact correct. Despite, Harley claiming it was just worries, Bill still had the idea of live toying with his mind. He let Harley lead him to the sofa and he snuggled into her small frame, a blanket covering them. "After dinner, can we have a bonfire? Like we did a while, well last year, it was fun and roasted marshmallows sound very appetising."
"You don't need to ask, it's your house and garden, you can do as you please. Anyway, what do you think of Paul? The newer recruit. I think he's kind of odd."
"In all honesty, I think the same. Just the way he does things seems strange and like he doesn't actually know a thing about curse-breaking. He claims he has done it for twenty years but it doesn't seem like it." Bill stated as he tugged the blanket higher above his body, initially covering Harley's head, causing her to swipe it away and pout at him, which he found adorable, but also a pain in the arse. He couldn't say no to her pout, and evil like she is, she uses it to her advantage. ("Bill you've stolen the covers, give me some!" *pout*)
"I-he just seems iffy. Asa said he thinks so too, I don't know how Roger feels about him. Should we say something?" Bill shrugged, "Yeah, we probably should give him a little longer to settle in. He was at a base in France, you know, he said that they were a lot stricter on what they wore and other things. Bloody nightmare, in other words." Harley continued and moved her head so that she was looking up at her boyfriend. Her right hand was resting on his chest whilst her left was wrapped around his body, her head on his shoulder.
He held her close, it was times like this that the two treasured. Granted they worked together and other things but just sitting around cuddling as dinner cooked was a magical feeling.
It wasn't love. Bill realised that. It didn't need to be. As long as he had her somehow, that was enough. Love can wait. Moments like this is what mattered at the moment.
