"Sorry for what??" You pried. Tony simply shook his head. "ANTHONY, SPEAK!"

"I just can't understand why you're so concerned for him, when you've been through hell yourself." There was venom laced within the word 'him' when he spoke it.

"Hey, answer my question first!" You snapped. "I asked how Bucky was!"

"Yeah no, he–he's fine," Tony scratched the back of his head, annoyed. "A few broken bones and a concussion, but he's okay. He had the USB too."

A sigh of relief exited your lungs like an anchor being lifted off of your chest, and all of the tension melted away. "Lead with that next time." You breathlessly replied. You were still guilty that Bucky was suffering. If only you hadn't sent him outside by himself, he'd be okay. But he delivered the USB to the team where it belonged, so at least all of this wasn't for nothing.

"Can we go back? I want to see him." And you wanted to see him, alright. Along with kiss him, smile at him and have him smile back, sit next to him, feel his arms around your waist in a hug so firm that it would become the only safe space you would ever need.

"Y/n why do you care so much about him? It's his fault you were kidnapped and beaten. I mean, look at you!"

"Oh god, Tony please. Not again." You pleaded, rubbing your hands over your face. "Please just leave it alone!"

"Just hear me out–"

"I heard you loud and clear before the mission. And I don't care. He makes me happy, so please don't ruin this for me."

"Oh really!"

"Really!"

"Do you love him??" His face was suddenly red and his voice was angrier.

You hesitated. Of course you did, but you second guessed confirming that, not just because you didn't want to just make Tony angrier by saying it, but what would happen to you if you finally said it out loud? You've never said those three words out loud to anyone romantically before (except for the kid with the huge glasses at the top of the monkey bars in kindergarten, but that doesn't count). Would you feel scared? Nervous? Not the same altogether?

"You know what he did!" He shouted.

"It wasn't him, dammit! I can't believe I have to tell you this every time!"

"You?? I can't believe I have to tell you this every time! He's a murderer! And if you can't understand that, then I'll have to take steps to make sure you know your limits."

"You clearly don't know your own, though, because I'm not a kid anymore. Back off. And stop trying to micromanage every aspect of my life too, Anthony, 'cause it's not like you care!" You scoffed. "And stop throwing the word 'murderer' around like it has no weight to it."

"I'm just doing what dad never could."

"Dad never cared about us. Stop trying to make up for what he failed to do, because it isn't going to make things better, Tony. Not now, anyways."

"He didn't care, but I do care. And I'm telling you to stay away from Bucky because I don't trust him!"

"I just want to be happy!" You laugh incredulously. Going back to being unconscious seems like a great thing right now. "All I want is to be happy and for you to support me in whatever I choose. You were the one who told me, back in our tiny apartment, when I was crying in my room and you were leaving for MIT, that if I wanted to be happy, I'd have to look for happiness myself. It was the last thing you said to me before you left. Not to
mention you didn't even call home for the two years you were there. I still think about that night whenever I'm unhappy, and every time I do, I just realize again and again how right you are. And now that I've found someone to make me happy, you want me to give it up!"
