"You know there's a reason straws exist." Sam frowned, throwing one at Bucky, who sat slurping his drink, trying to get the last of the alcohol out of the glass.

Even tilting the glass till it's bottom was parallel to the ceiling didn't seem to do the trick.

"Thanks Sam." Bucky smiled, taking the straw that had fallen in his lap and putting it in his drink.

"You better b-"

Sam's acknowledgement was cut short by a bothersome sucking noise. He looked up to find Bucky staring at the bottom of his glass, innocently concentrated and red-faced, trying desperately to reach the rest of his alcohol.

"Oh for crying out loud, man." Sam groaned.

"Huh?"

You forced a laugh, trying to mask the the distress that being at this party brought you. It was Tony's party yet he was nowhere to be seen- not that his whereabouts mattered- but they did.

Your back was to the dance floor, because you didn't dare look into it and risk seeing Tony. You were sure he was off, dancing with five women at once, his disgusting breath that reeked of alcohol, intoxicating them too.

He probably took yesterday's conversation too personally, and it drove you insane that he couldn't listen to what you wanted without thinking you were against him. It drove you absolutely crazy, but you'd still kiss him till your knees go weak, because liking someone a lot isn't a choice. It is something that just is.

"Hey," Natasha nudges you gently, snapping you out of your thoughts, before sitting on the barstool beside you. "How does that water taste?"

"I don't know what you mean. This is vodka."

She took the glass from in front of you, downed it a second, then placed it back in front of you.

"This is water."

"I was feeling cool. You ruined the mood."

She laughed, as you smiled half heartedly.

When you didn't respond after seconds of thick silence, but instead let your smile falter and let your gaze fall upon the rim of your glass, Natasha sighed knowingly.

"Come on y/n. Stop thinking about it too much and just try to have a bit of fun. Ever heard of that? You're at a party, woman."
