°SOMETHING MISSING
"You're here," Jungkook said unfazed, finding Roseanne in the kitchen busy cooking their dinner.
Her smile faltered for a moment at the hidden sarcasm in his voice. But she brushed it off thinking she was just being paranoid.
"I also live here after all," she replied, going back to work. "I just thought that you might've missed me."
"I did," he muttered, dropping his bag down the couch. "But like I said, I did. Finally did myself a favor of opening my eyes."
"Are you still mad at me?" She asked, back turned from him to avoid seeing his expression.
"What do you think Rosé?" He snickered.
She had taken a note of how he used her nickname instead of her real one, which he pointed out that is only used by people close to her. Declaring so himself.
She sucked in a deep breath in nervousness. "I don't usually apologize, but how do I make it up to you?"
He looked at her without a trace of humor in his face sending her to a frenzy of paranoia.
"I don't know Rosé," he said, looking directly at her. "I've heard that a lot of times already, I don't even want to believe anymore."
His words had went right into her heart. Shame and guilt had enveloped her as she looked away feeling discouraged and hopeless.
And it brought her to a lot of memories where she was making promises, apologizing and yet doing nothing to make up for it- thoroughly. Maybe this was karma.
"This time, I swear, I'll really make it up to you," she said pleadingly. "I won't break my promise, if I do, you can break any ties with me or whatever you want."
"Wow, you actually think you can do it," Jungkook muttered but she clearly heard it causing a prick in her heart of the distrust he had implied.
"I can," she said. "And I will."
"Great, good luck then," he said, standing up. "I hope you stay true to your word."
"Oh and dinner's ready," she said, trying to sound cheerful. "I made your favorite."
"No thanks," he said. "I already had dinner outside."
Roseanne stared at his retreating figure in confusion and hurt. What just happened?
"You what?!" Lisa shouted hearing the incredulous suggestion from Roseanne. "He's ignoring you and you're acting like his maid or something? This is not what we talked about Roseanne, this is not what I imagined of asking for forgiveness."
"Well, what could I do?" She could only shrug. "I was desperate, and now I only realized I was so stupid."
"I know you want his forgiveness, but baby," Lisa said leaning back and crossing her arms. "Being his personal maid? I think I might just give him punch or four!"
"Lisa, you're supposed to be helping me," Roseanne groaned.
"Yes, I am," Lisa pointed out. "But Roseanne baby, you did not just hire yourself as his personal maid."
"I did not, okay?" She said. "I just said I'll make it up to him and maybe that includes doing all the chores and pampering him and attending to his needs."
"That's basically a maid," Lisa raised her eyebrow. "If not, you're being a nanny."
"Not really," Roseanne sighed. "He isn't even home most of the time, figured he'd be with his friends or at the arcade."
And in truth, maybe Roseanne missed him more. She wanted her friend back and she's trying to bring him back. But it's hard to bring back someone who you pushed away.
"Or hanging out with someone," Lisa said looming behind her but immediately regretted to late as Roseanne turned her head. "Roseanne, look at me. Probably just talking about something."
But Roseanne wasn't paying attention as her eyes were glued at the two people afar laughing over something, genuine happiness etched on their faces.
"Chaeyeon and Jungkook?" She muttered, looking directly at the two.
"Group project or something Roseanne," Lisa pulled her to face her once again, trying to remove her sight from those two while cursing silently at them. "Roseanne?"
"Yeah, must be a group project," she muttered.
But would a group project last for weeks? I think not.
"Jungkook, are you going out again today?" She asked even though she knew the answer.
"Yeah," he answered, fixing his hair and shirt. Secretly, she liked seeing him do that but today, seeing him do just that for somebody made her annoyed for some reason.
But she didn't have the right to voice out her feelings when she's in the middle of making it up to him.
"Don't wait for me, I'm eating out," he turned around, barely glancing at her and took his phone.
"But Jungkook," she tried to smile. "It's saturday, we're supposed to eat at home together."
Jungkook stopped and grimaced fakely. "Don't tell me that, I wasn't the one who broke that rule first," he said innocently. "I just thought it didn't apply anymore. My bad, can't cancel it now."
Roseanne looked at him aghast. How is he this childish, bringing back her past mistakes just to counter her.
But she didn't do anything and pursed her lips. Let him be Roseanne, let him be. Remember, you did a whole lot more to him so if he endured all of that, you can too.
"Alright then," she said and turned away to watch tv. "Have fun."
And that's when she missed the disappointed look that flashed in his face for a moment before shaking his head and sighing.
