A/N: Sorry, the update was planned to drop on Friday but school.
It sucks. You're asking what? Life.
It's been one and a half month and the situation is still the same. I don't know if I can keep this going. But I also know that it would break my heart to see her suffer even more.
She's been cold to me. It's been a while since we kissed. For that, I'm starting to regret every opportunity I didn't use when I could.
The situation about Eliot hasn't changed, too. Nobody knows if he's alive or dead, where he is or anything. Even though I feel kinda bad to say so, I love to go to school. Not because school is so awesome but because it's the only place where I'm able to breathe. The bags under my eyes aren't there for no reason. The situation has me hard.
Right now, it's luckily Saturday and it's 5 am. I'm always awake at this time because of Chloe's nightmares. I hate it to see her shaking and moving from them, knowing that I can do nothing about it. One thing hasn't changed, though. I still love to hold her, even though she's kicking her way out of my grip during the night. I don't know why she does it but I think she doesn't do it on purpose. At least I like to think so.
My phone started to ring. Who the fuck is calling me this early on a Saturday? The display didn't tell me who it was as it said it's an unknown number. I picked up. That got me suspicious.
"Hello?" I said. The caller coughed before speaking up. "Is this Rachel Amber?" - "Yes. It is. Who am I speaking to?" - "This is a doctor from a hospital. It doesn't matter who I am or where I work exactly. I'm not allowed to give you information... normally." - "So? What do you want to tell me? Speak up, please." - "Miss Amber, your father gave me a huge amount of money for this. I'm calling to tell you that Mr. Hampden is alive." - "Excuse me, what?" I heard him, but I couldn't believe it. "Eliot Hampden is alive," he repeated. I wanted to say something but he already hung up.
I started to smile and cry at the same time. I felt the weight drop off my shoulders. I stared at Chloe, who is, without my notice, already wide awake.
"What's wrong?" she asked. "Nothing. Quite the opposite. Chloe, he is alive," I sobbed. "Wait, what?" - "This was a doctor. My dad... he paid a huge amount to a specific doctor. That was him on the phone." Chloe didn't say anything. She just sat there, probably burning a hole into me with her stare. She sat there like this for straight 5 minutes or so.
She suddenly stood up slowly, coming towards me - and hugged me with all of her heart. It's like the situation never existed. The weight dropped off both of our shoulders.
I had my eyes closed when we hugged, so I didn't realize it at first when her lips fell onto mine. When I realized what was happening, I froze. It's so unfamiliar, yet it is not. She immediately backed out of the kiss when she noticed that I wouldn't show any reaction. That got me back into reality.
"Why did you back out of it?" - "Because you didn't do anything. And I can understand why. I mean I've been the greatest asshole towards you and I'm sorry for that. I know that you were the only person who was there for me. And I wish I could've shown you at least some affection but I couldn't." - "That-" - "Let me finish. When you asked me if we were dating again this day in the car, I wanted to say yes. But my head didn't let me. I wasn't myself." - "Ok, Chloe, shut up, you big goofball. I know all of that. The only reason why I didn't kiss you back moments ago, was because I was so freaking overwhelmed. After getting rejected all the time, unintentionally due to your trauma, I felt like I was in a dream. Like this isn't real."
After my words, she looked down to the floor like she felt sorry for the words she just said. "C'mere," I said as I grabbed her arm and pulled her towards me, letting our lips meet each other. I felt the love that's been missing, the warmth, just everything I missed.
It felt like everything was back to okay and none of this shit has happened. After our kiss, we just stared each other in the eyes. Her shine was back but the most important - her smile, too. I missed this so much. "Not to kill the mood but is there anything else on Eliot? I mean even though I pretended not to listen, I know that he hasn't shown up to classes or school in general. And I know that Steph hasn't paid him yet." - "Not yet. Maybe we'll get an update about that, too, soon." - "At least we know that he's alive." I nodded.
"To answer your question, yes, we are." - "Huh?" - "Dating." - "Glad you found your light back, Price," I smiled at her before I kissed her yet again.
