One foggy spring morning, two pups were born from Chieftain Wood of The Pack of the Earth, and his mate, Loki. A male named Stormjay and a she-wolf named Sky.
Stormjay looked very similar to his mother - a light gray wolf with crystal blue eyes. He was very large for a newborn pup, but was much more gentle than his sister. There was a serenity in the monochrome greys of his pelt, just like his mother. He also took after her eyes - the blue of every dancing sky, infinite hues illuminated by newborn light.
His sister, Sky, was a beautiful dark gray she-wolf with darker gray paws and blinding light green eyes. The gray of her pelt was diffuse and mottled, like sun upon a storm cloud. Her eyes were as green lights could shine in any night.
Strangely, Sky didn't look much like either of her parents, as Wood was a brown wolf, and neither pup had any shade of brown on them. This led to rumors within The Pack of the Earth that Wood was not the true father of Stormjay and Sky, but there wasn't much evidence on this matter.
A week later after Stormjay and Sky were born, they opened their eyes.
Loki, with the excited glimmer in her eyes as a new mother, noticed right away, headed out of her den right for her mate to see.
"Wood!" She called from outside her den. "Come see! Stormjay and Sky-"
But Wood wasn't anywhere to be seen.
The little silver she-wolf stepped out of her den and into what the packs called their Main Territory, where wolves spend the majority of their day. Whether it was training, eating, sleeping, or just having a friendly conversation, a lot of The Pack of the Earth's days were spent in the Main Territory.
"Hello, Loki." Wood's sister, Kiara, who also happened to be the only shaman of The Pack of the Earth, the wolf approached Loki. In the dappled light, her fur was an ever-morphing serenity of browns. Her gray eyes had a settling effect, reassuring in their reflectiveness. "Is everything alright?"
"Oh, yes, it's alright, but thank you for checking in." Loki smiled. "Have you seen your brother anywhere? Stormjay and Sky's eyes just opened!"
"That's wonderful!" Kiara beamed. "He told me earlier that he was going out hunting this morning with Calvin...once he comes back, you should let him know."
"Yeah. Kinda why I'm looking for him," Loki flattened her ears.
"Hello, you two." A white she-wolf with yellow eyes approached Loki and Kiara. Her eyes were the sort of yellow that glows from a homely hearth, the sort that warms you just to see it. Her name was Misa, and she recently had a pup named Bright Moon who was about Stormjay and Sky's age, maybe a little younger. She looked just like Misa. "What's going on?"
"Hey, Misa." Loki greeted her. "Stormjay and Sky opened their eyes."
"That's great, Loki!" Misa grinned. "Has Wood seen it yet?"
"He's out hunting," Kiara explained. "He should be back soon."
"How's Bright Moon, Misa?" Loki asked.
"She's doing well. She hasn't opened her eyes yet, but I'm sure she'll be there eventually."
"Giving birth to a single pup is never a good omen," Loki heard Kiara say under her breath.
Wood walked into the Main Territory with two other wolves, who were helping him carry an elk behind him.
"Wood," Loki trotted up to her mate.
"Mornin', Loki." Wood greeted her.
"Good morning." Loki dipped her head. "Stormjay and Sky opened their eyes this morning."
