Chapter Nine

"Could it possibly get more borin' than this?" Sky complained to Kenya as they were on a patrol, led by Perlina and a fairly new guard wolf, Calvin.

"Once we're allowed to go on patrols by ourselves, we'll have a lot more fun." Kenya reassured her.

"Heyyy, look, it's Jupiter and Ragna!" Sky pointed her muzzle towards the two older trainees. Kenya clearly had a crush on Jupiter, but they hadn't figured out if the feeling was mutual yet.

"Hmm...don't make eye contact..." Kenya whispered.

"What? They're our friends, right?" Sky snickered. "Hey! Jupiter! Ragna! Over here!"

"We don't have time for games, Sky..." Jupiter called back.

"Oh, c'mon, Jupiter, let's go say hi. Mom's with them, anyway."

"Alright..." Jupiter sighed, as his sister rushed him over to them.

"What is it?" Jupiter chuckled sheepishly. Perlina and Calvin were talking, so they weren't paying attention to the younger wolves.

"We just wanted to say hiiiiii, and Kenya wanted to talk to you!" Sky nudged Kenya gently.

"No, I didn't!" Kenya snapped. She then looked at Jupiter. "I mean...well, ugh...whatever. Hi, Jupiter...and Ragna..."

"...Hey," Jupiter smiled a little bit, which made Kenya melt inside. He was usually very serious and no-nonsense, but to see a smile from him made her heart explode.

"Jupiter, be friendlier!" Ragna wacked him with her paw. "Sorry about my brother...that's just how he is. Anyway, how are you two?"

"Kenya thinks you're cute, Jupiter," Sky told him.

"...Okay." Jupiter responded.

"He appreciates it." Ragna sighed. "Well, we won't keep you two...you're probably very busy, with patrolling and everything...we should go finish ours."

"Oh, okay...bye, you two." Kenya flattened her ears.

"See ya." Jupiter walked off with Ragna.

"That didn't go very well..." Kenya whimpered.

"He's probably just playin' hard to get," Sky reassured her. "You're nice, and you're real pretty! He's gotta like ya."

"Thanks, Sky. At least Ragna's nice."

"She probably knows Jupiter likes you, and is tryin' to get him to talk to ya!"

"We'll see about that..."

"What was that!?" Ragna barked. "Kenya clearly likes you. She's so sweet and cute, why won't you be nice for once?"

"I'm not interested..." Jupiter sighed. "Yeah, I like her, but not in that way...I have more important things to worry about rather than finding a she-wolf."

"Hmph...at least give it a try! You two would be cute together."

"I do feel like I could've been nicer about it..." Jupiter admitted. "It's just that...I really wanna be a guard wolf! I can't make any distractions for myself."

"I want to be a guard wolf just as much as you do, and I'm at least giving some male wolves chances...basically, what I'm saying is, just give her a chance! You'd be happy with her."

"She's pretty young," Jupiter mentioned.

"She's only a few months younger!"

"She's not really my type..."
