TW: Graphic violence is featured in this chapter. However, this also features a very important moment in the storyline, so if you are uncomfortable with these kinds of scenes, feel free to dm me and I'll give you a summary of this chapter!
Leia had expected the patrol to just be her and Sakura, judging by the way Sakura had basically been clinging to her earlier, but Jupiter and Calvin had come along, too. She already knew Jupiter, as Roscoe had introduced her to all his friends, but she had been taking a liking to Calvin during this patrol, who she kind of had wandered off with. She wanted to ask how he lost his eye, but didn't want to be rude.
Underneath the shade of the trees, Leia found herself appreciating the scent of pine needles; the ambiance of autumn. Encompassed by the thick heavy air, she watched as a single sparrow fluttered high above the emerald forest. A few feet next to her and Calvin, an eager chipmunk hastily scampered from tree to tree. Beyond the horizon, she could see the community of newly formed saplings. They appeared as little children, learning under the guidance of their grown and fully matured parents.
"So you're from The Pack of the Fire?" Calvin asked.
"Yeah, Alpine recruited me here after I found out what a horrible person our chieftain is..."
"Are you liking it here?" He smiled.
"I can honestly say..." Leia paused. "The week I've been here has been the happiest point in my life. I love it here."
"I'm glad you are! I can't imagine what life must be like in The Pack of the Fire...I'm glad you're here with us, now. You seem to be getting along with everyone."
"I am. Most people here are really nice."
"You, like, clicked with Roscoe right away. Alpine and him didn't get along before you came around...did you know that?"
"Oh, I know. Now, we're all sharing a den."
"That was weird...one day, they're fighting, and all of a sudden, they're really close. What's up with that..?"
"It's a long story...but, all you need to know is that we're as close as we can be now."
"And that's all that matters now, right?"
"Yeah, exactly." Leia smiled.
"I'm so happy you're away from that pack..." Calvin sighed. "Daruk...I...my mate was murdered by him in the summer. Then, The Pack of the Fire kidnapped my daughters...we got them back, but their kidnapping is actually how we were able to find out that Daruk had been behind everything."
"Ah, I'm very sorry...The Pack of the Fire is so corrupt. I feel ashamed that I was ever a part of it..." Leia paused for a moment. "Wait...daughters? I thought Kaia was your only child."
"No..." Calvin sighed. "I had another daughter. Her name was Nyla...she wandered off of the Main Territory one day, and..." Calvin let out another deep sigh.
"...Wait, Nyla?" Leia stopped in her tracks.
"...Yeah?"
"...What did she look like?"
"...A brown she-wolf with bright yellow eyes, just like me."
"I-I...Calvin..."
"What's wrong?" Calvin asked.
"Calvin..."
"What..!?"
"...Nyla's in The Pack of the Fire. She's not dead."
Calvin stopped dead in his tracks.
"...Who told you she was dead..?"
"...Daruk." Calvin trembled. "...Fucking. Daruk."
