It was the middle of the night, now. Wood, Stormjay and Sky were all fast asleep at this point. Loki knew what she had to do.
She silently snuck out of her den, and swiftly out of the Main Territory, and into the East Forests. All she could do now is pray that no one would wake up and notice that she was gone.
Night deepened each forest brown to dark hues. The night expanded as black angel wings, protecting earth as it rested. In the serenade of the black, the stars are were a choir, lights that sang in infinite patterns.
She finally arrived in a small clearing where a large, dark gray wolf with lighter gray paws stood tall, waiting for her. This was the wolf who had passed most of his genetics down to Sky. The father of Loki's children. The dark gray of his pelt was perfect, a sort of visual silence that gave a revered awe. His eyes were a light brown, the kind that would remind you of trees in the brightest summer sun.
Aries, the Chieftain of The Pack of the Fire. It was him, the cruel leader who ruined everyone's lives. He was the one who fathered Loki's pups.
"Hello, Aries..." Loki flattened her ears as Aries stood in front of her.
"Good evening, Loki." Aries grinned.
"...Lovely night isn't it...?" She awkwardly broke the ice.
"Yes, it is." Aries nodded. "So... can we talk?"
"Oh, yes..." Loki flicked her tail. "Listen, Aries... I need to talk to you about Stormjay and Sky."
"Your pups?" He asked.
"Yeah, them." She responded. "You obviously haven't met them yet, have you?"
"No, I haven't." He shook his head. "Are they well?"
"O-Oh... yeah, they're fine. In fact, they just opened their eyes this morning."
"That's wonderful news, Loki."
"It is." She smiled. "Well... I... there's something you should know about them."
"And what's that?" He tilted his head.
"Well... when they were born, I noticed that neither of them looked like Wood, really. I mean, they don't even have a hint of brown on them... just gray. They're both just gray. A-And my daughter...she looks like...like..."
"...I'm the father, aren't I?" Aries sighed.
"...Yes. You probably are." Loki sighed. "Look, Aries... what we did was a mistake. Our packs are rivals. We have completely different morals. Heck, we're just very different wolves... I don't know if we can keep meeting up like this... and I just feel so...horrible and sick whenever I do. I-I mean-"
"Do you really feel that way, Loki?"
"I...y-yes, I do."
Aries sighed. "I suppose I understand. It was fun while it lasted, right?"
"Y-Yeah... it was." Loki's voice was shaking.
"Are you going to be alright?" Aries asked.
"Yes. I'm fine. I...just... if someone were to find out about us, I'd be considered a traitor forever. I already feel like one... I mean, I'm very loyal to my pack. And you're loyal to yours. But this just feels very out of character for me to do. I do still have feelings for you, it's just that I...yeah, you get the point."
Aries nodded. "I understand. Is this it, then?"
"I think it is." Loki looked down at her paws.
"I had a feeling that it wasn't destined to last." Aries sighed. "But I know why you're doing this."
