Meera's P.O.V Continues.....

I reached office twenty minutes before time, the next morning. My heart was beating a thousand times and was going on increasing that which I could hear in my ears as I climbed the stairs to enter the building. Opening the glass doors I noticed everyone present in the reception area were staring at me making me more and more nervous. Keeping my head down I was walking towards the stairs when I heard someone calling me from behind, 'Good morning ma'am! Please don't climb the stairs, get into the elevator'

Turning back I saw a guard peeping from the elevator bending a little forward with a smile. 'No I'll better take the stairs!' I replied.

'No ma'am, please don't let Rahul sir fire me from my job' pleaded the middle aged guard.

what does he mean by that why would Rahul sir fire him?

That man's words puzzled me. 'Hey Meera come on, use the lift' said kinjal, who just entered the building. I had to follow her when she held my arm and dragged me with her.  I don't want to lose this job....and don't want to end up in prison... I kept telling myself while standing inside the elevator. While kinjal kept blabbering, 'You know Meera yesterday we all had a very serious briefing by Rahul sir! Sir was very angry with the maintenance guys and he fired all the old guys making few of us work over time to clear the dues! I must say thanks to you Meera, since it's all because of you'

I was unable to understand if Kinjal was talking to me with favourability or was it sarcasm? I stood there in shock when she held my arm, pulled me out as the elevator doors opened.

'Rahul sir appointed this guard in the elevator and warned him to be alert especially when you are using it'

oh god!! now all these people are going to blame me for their working over time and of course Rahul sir's briefing too....i can imagine how grueling it would have been...

Kinjal and I parted ways. Opening Rahul sir's cabin doors, I was surprised to see him seated in that mighty chair surfing over his laptop wearing glasses. My nervousness was at it's peak seeing him glance at me. God help me please.... I kept praying as I walked in.

'How are you feeling today Miss Trivedi?' enquired Rahul sir, closing his laptop and he kept his specs aside.

'I.....I...m, fi....fine...s...s...sir!!' I stuttered a lot.

'Good then, go to your cabin and wait for my call. Till then try to sort out those files and arrange them accordingly' he said getting up from the chair. My legs were shaking in fear seeing him walk towards me, he was more of a Hitler type, about whom I read in my ninth grade History books, who terrorized people and the nations as well. Everybody has to do what he says, he's a Monarch of this Oberoi Group...

Trying to avoid any further eye contact, I slipped pass through the other side of the large table, pressing the button on the shelf, I entered my so called cabin gasping for breath. will I be able to survive these conditions?  Not giving any value to my thoughts I kept myself busy with positive thoughts I need money....

I kept chanting those words and  I changed my focus to the very first assignment, I was given   arrange the files accordingly...

The room was totally untidy and it definitely needed a proper arrangement. I got myself busy in that work, I think the earlier Personal Assistants who worked here could not maintain the room properly. Clearing the room made the room a bit more spacious to spread a cot with cupboard, which was bigger than the cottage I lived my entire life back in the village. The thought of my village, the life I spent with my Nanny again made entrance into my mind making me nostalgic with tears filling up in my eyes again and a large lump forming in my throat that was hard to swallow. I was still dealing with my past when the phone kept on the table besides the desk-top computer started ringing.

Wiping my eyes with a handkerchief that I carry always with me, I lifted the receiver, 'Hello!' my tone was heavy and I was breathing heavily to suppress my sorrow.

'Miss Trivedi, get me the file of Apoorva Constructions along with the balance sheet of MGD Constructions' Rahul Sir's voice was strong even in the phone and of course he had this English accent. Hanging up, I checked the shelf that which I just arranged and I could find the needed files very easily. Holding both the files I went to Sir's cabin and placed them on the table saying, 'Sir, the files' and I turned back to go to my cabin a hide out.... when I was stopped.

'Wait Miss Trivedi! I want you to check this balance-sheet and tell me if it's correct' Sir ordered me.

balance-sheet! how would i know....

'Si...sir...b..but...'

'I warned you yesterday Miss Trivedi, not to back answer me, do what I say or resign from this job! My offer still stands, the moment you resign, you will land straight in the prison' said Rahul sir throwing that MGD file at my face.

oh god...i forgot....

'Si...sir....sir....I'll..d...do...it' the lump that formed in my throat earlier came out with my eyes instantly filling up with tears that broke the dam gates and were overflowing. Kneeling down, I was collecting those papers that were displaced from the file and spread near the table he was sitting, my tears made few of those papers wet while I was picking them up.

'Hey bro...what's up man? You don't answer my calls nor do you ever call me back, what's the matter bro?' I heard a new voice in the cabin. 'Who's the new Chick?'

'Just shut the fuck up man!!' said Rahul sir and got up from his chair.

'Why are your eyes red, did you not sleep well? Is this Chick the reason?' I heard the new voice again talking standing behind me .

'Shut-up Sunny!' I heard Rahul sir's voice before I entered back into my cabin and closed the door.
