Author's P.O.V continues....

Mahipal stood looking at the lifeless body of Raahil with pride overflowing from his facial expressions, it was victory for him rather than a grave mistake. It was then he noticed a shining thing on Raahil's chest from the partially torn clothes. Pushing aside his semi torn shirt, Mahipal found a ring around his neck tied to a thin black rope. The ring had a peach coloured pearl and which he instantly pulled it from Raahil's neck, it was more like a prize for the effort he had put. May be there must be more of these kinds of pearls in his hut....I will go and check them in the night Thought Mahipal tying the rope around his neck and the ring with pearl was his from then on.

Vipin was alone when Raahil's body was buried besides Amaira's. How could Mahipal do such a thing to the young couple. Thought Vipin seated near the grave that evening and spent some more time there before returning back to the hut which was empty. What is Mahipal upto now..? Vipin suddenly started feeling strange thinking about Mahipal, the previous rapport with him was all gone in his subconscious mind and all he could feel was fear that he too might become the next victim in Mahipal's hands. On the other hand Mahipal was busy searching for some more precious pearls which he felt that Raahil must be hinding with him as he was hiding that pearl ring around his neck. He kept searching each and every nook and corner of that single room and found only few clothes. Disappointed with his failed search, Mahipal kicked one of the vessels that was lying on the mud floor towards one corner which actually was turned into a kitchen with a small pit dug to make fire for cooking. The vessel Mahipal kicked hit a small earthen pot hidden in between those vessels and broke into few pieces displacing the contents of that vessel and in that was a pack of small cloth bundle. Mahipal's curiosity made him tear open the old cloth bundle and was astonished to fine those pearls he was searching for. I knew he had these pearls... thought Mahipal holding few of them in his palm and ran back to his hut that night. Vipin was fast asleep on the floor. "Wake up Vipin, wake up!" Mahipal touched his shoulder pushing it lightly.

"Let me sleep brother...I am too tired" Vipin said without opening his eyes.

"See what I have, you will be surprised. ..wake up" Mahipal pushed again.

Vipin opened his eyes with a great difficulty and he too was surprised to see those pearls. "Where did you find them?" Vipin first asked.

"Found them in Raahil's hut and be careful, don't talk loudly, I am planning to escape from here now...you too are going to go with me right?" Mahipal whispered.

Vipin was happy as well as sad since in his conscience he felt that it was wrong to take those pearls but he too was desperate to escape the bondage and go back home with something that truly helped his family for further survival, and so half heartedly agreed to go with him. They had nothing to pack except for those pearls which would make them rich once they reached back to their home country. Walking to the river they both took turns to untie the knot of that hidden raft and freed it from that rock. Raahil was an expert in deep sea diving and he could do it in one go but since Mahipal and Vipin barely were able to hold their breath, it took them more time to get the raft back to surface. As the raft was afloat, they both jumped on to it with a hope to reach the port soon "I do not wish to miss the opportunity to go back home Vipin" Mahipal was determined rowing the raft with a long flattened wooden piece that midnight with just the stars to their aid and they followed the flow. Mahipal knew that the river would join the sea and was anxiously waiting to reach it with both of them rowing the raft by taking turns. The stars favoured them and they reached the end of the river the next midnight, they had no food and survived on the river water all through the journey. They both abandoned the raft, letting it free, hiding behind the bushes that were on the banks, they walked further to reach the port. There was just one ship anchored there "Let's wait till it get's dark, then we will board the ship" Mahipal was in charge and Vipin nodded his head in agreement. As planned they both kept waiting for the port to clear and until then they tried their best to avoid getting caught. By the time it was dark, the port was clear with nobody around. Seeing the opportunity, they both entered the ship. They found a right spot behind the large sacks of food supplies. The Ship sailed to reach the Bombay port which took about a month while Mahipal and Vipin ate whatever they found in there and kept hiding all through the journey. When the ship was anchored at the port and workers opened the room filled with food supplies, Mahipal and Vipin too mingled with those workers in unloading the ship.

"Here is your share of pearls" Mahipal handed over his share to Vipin "I wish to meet you again, tell me where do you live exactly"

"Yes brother, my parents live in Surat and I hope they are safe" Vipin said with a smile on his face that night hiding at an abandoned location.

They reached their respective homes within few days and it was celebration at Vipin's home and Mahipal learnt that his father was no more and his mother lived alone waiting for Mahipal to return.
"Mahi" his mother said "get married soon my son. Give me grandsons to spend my time with" was her only request after reuniting with her son.

"Yes Ma I will marry who ever you think is good for me" Mahipal replied.

Within a week Mahipal's marriage was fixed with a young and beautiful girl from a rich business family working under the British Raaj.

Vipin's marriage too was settled with the daughter of his father's childhood friend, Kokila.

With no proper communication during that time, they both were married on the same evening wish I could invite you to my wedding....  Thought Vipin just few hours before his marriage while Mahipal was desperately thinking about how to spend his first night after marriage with his new bride.

Vipin's wedding ceremony was rather a simple one and Mahipal's wedding was grand one, as per the status of the bride's parents.

A year passed by and Mahipal's wife gave birth to a beautiful looking daughter. Vipin's wife Kokila could not conceive still.
Mahipal's wife gave birth to two more daughters within a gap of three years each. "I want a son. He would be the sole heir of my property" Mahipal's mother was adamant on having a grandson since she was a strong believer in dictums of the religion. It was two years after the fourth daughter was born, finally a son was born and it was the same time when Kokila too gave birth to a son.

Mahipal's mother insisted on getting his first daughter married soon since she was a teenager. As per his mother's wish, Mahipal arranged for his eldest daughter's marriage to another business man's son who belonged to a nearby village. After the marriage, the groom and the bride were going back to their village on bullock carts when few bandits attacked their caravan and killed the groom, stole away all the cash and jewellery along with the young bride.
It was two days later the young bride's, naked, mutilated body was found in the fields closer to Mahipal's home.
"Oh god what happened to my daughter!" Mahipal's wife cried in pain looking at the dead body of her first born. It took almost an year for her to recover from the pain. It was then Mahipal decided to get his second daughter married. "Let's change the gloomy environment in our home by getting our second daughter married" Mahipal announced one morning. It was few days later she was married too and it was utterly shocking for the family when they learnt about the similarities behind the murdered of their second born where she too was abducted along with the groom and was later raped in front of the groom and he was let go to inform Mahipal.

It was the same case with the third daughter.  "I know I am the culprit and have earned this fate for my daughters, now I can't let my fourth daughter too to suffer like the older ones" said Mahipal and he pulled out his long sword hanging on the wall "I have no other option" he said and beheaded the fourth daughter right in front of other family members "I warn you all from now on, no girl child should be alive in this family...I do not wish they suffer like my other daughters. Just kill them as soon as they are born" he yelled holding the swords with the blood still dripping from its tip "it's a curse" Mahipal finally worded it out.
