'Wow!! You've got a pretty long hair Meera' Sandy said looking at her long tresses that touched below her butt.

'Thanks Sandy' Meera said trying to dry her hair which she washed and just was out of the bathroom revealing their length. Meera sat on the edge of the bed with all her thoughts on finding a job of which she had no clue, while she was again shivering. But before she could ask, Sandy got busy with a phone call. Not wanting to disturb her newly found friend Meera turned back to face the window and began watching the world outside. The small window faced the busy road with vehicles moving at high speed as the fog receded. She never was in a city like this before. Meera had no idea of city culture, the way people lived, nothing. Meera again started recollecting the evening when Tulsi and Meera traveled in a bus the whole night, to reach Chennai, the big city. It was Meera's maiden trip outside the small village she lived till then. She was excited and was also scared looking at the hurry-burry situation in the city and also there was deep sorry that was associated with missing her Granny.

why are all these people in such a hurry?  Meera kept thinking on their way to Tulsi's Aunt's Apartment.

Tulsi's Aunt was the one who sponsored Meera's train ticket, few clothes and a bag too. Be very careful Meera... she warned her just before the train moved, while Meera was in tears leaving the only known alive person in whole of the world.

what's happening to my life? It changed so drastically. I just want to go home.....but where will I go? I have no relative and no home either.....  Her subconscious mind screamed instantly. Meera was busy in her thoughts, when Sandy interrupted snapping at her. 'Hey Meera, it's already past one in the afternoon, shall we go and eat lunch? I am too hungry'

Sandy's words forced Meera to come out of her thought world. 'Oh okay' she spoke in least minimum words. She silently followed Sandy wrapping herself with the shawl that appeared a bit dirty due to the long train journey but she hardly cared about its looks, all she thought of was to keep herself warm.

'You know today we get special lunch. It's on Sunday's our Maharaj (Cook) prepares special dishes for all the girls along with a sweet dish' Sandy shared the information with much excitement while Meera was still too busy trying to cope up with the new environment.

Situated on the ground floor, the cafeteria was big with tables and chairs. Half of the chairs were already filled up with girls seated in groups chit-chatting, some busy talking over the phone. As they both entered the large hall at once Meera received all the attention that she did not wish to have at all, but it was due to her height many turned their heads. Within two minutes all the girls were again back to their respective positions enjoying their time.

Sandy occupied her favourite spot facing the television to watch a movie while she ate. 'Come here, sit besides me. This is the best place to watch t.v.'

Meera did as told by Sandy while she started feeling uncomfortable with the sudden attention. 'You know Meera today's lunch is on me. It's a treat for my newly found little sister who's very tall! And beautiful too!!' Laughed Sandy

'Thank you so much. Can I address you as Didi (sister)?' Inquired Meera with teary eyes.

'Sure my dear, I would love to hear you say Didi' Sandy  expressed with a smile. Sandy was a very light hearted girl. Her approach towards Meera made her feel more comfortable.

'Now tell me Meera, where are you from? What about you parents?' Sandy was curious to know about Meera's background, while gulping the chewed food that was served to them.

'I don't have anybody in this whole world Didi!! My parents belonged to some tiny village near the Holy town of Allahabad and my father migrated down South. My Nanny took care of me from the day I was born, since my mom passed away that very same day and now my Nanny too is no more' Meera said and was unable to hold her sorrow. Tears kept rolling down her cheeks and her voice was trembling along with her chin.

'I am so sorry dear!' said Sandy holding Meera's palm 'Am I not there for you now Meera, you are my sweet little sister, isn't it?' Sandy tried to cheer up Meera and was successful too.

Wiping her tears, Meera asked for a help, 'I need to find a job which I need very desperately Didi'

Having born in a rich family, Meera never got to enjoy the riches. Raised by her Nanny, she lived all her life in poverty, skipping meals some times. They could afford only one meal a day and the rest they filled up drinking water. It was for the very first time Meera ate food that filled her stomach completely.

'Okay come with me. Let's find you a job but before that you need to finish that sweet dish too' Sandy put up a condition in front of Meera that made her eat. Washing her hands, Meera followed Sandy to the garden where other girls too were spending their time under  the faint Sun trying to keep themselves warm. Fog receded by afternoon making the Sun appear just like full moon, still the chillness was too intense.

Sandy brought with her that day's Newspaper and spread it on the grass. 'Sit down Meera, let's see what we can find' she said opening the Sunday classifieds page. Using her forefinger, Sandy read the advertisements one by one, kept mumbling, talking to herself making a faint voice of hers' disappear in the noise of those vehicles honking making Meera just a mere spectator. She could not grasp a single word of what Sandy was reading. Stopping at one advertisement, 'today is your lucky day Meera. See this add., they want a receptionist who looks good and can speak English' Sandy finally spoke out loud allowing Meera to grasp what she was talking about.

'Is it?!' Meera exclaimed bringing smile back on her face.

'They did not mention about any educational qualifications, according to their requirements, you look good, infact very beautiful and can also speak English very well. So my guess is that you can try for this one!' said Sandy pausing a few seconds and then again continued 'and...and...if you don't mind, can I ask you something else?' Sandy continued with a bit of hesitation.

'Yes Didi sure'

'Just for information sake may I know your educational qualifications?'

'Didi, I finished my twelfth just six months back'

'Oh my God!! You are so young then!!' Sandy was surprised hearing Meera.

'Yes Didi I am seventeen now' Meera replied.

'Then this is a perfect beginning for you my dear little sister' she said pinching Meera's cheeks.

Sandy was around twenty four and was earning well. Above all she was very supportive to Meera. Her mother always told her 'help the one who really is in need, it's only then we get the help when we need'

'Meera since you are new to this place, I think it's better we both go out. I will show you a few places, shopping centers, etc. But before that let's first apply for this job, type your resume. What do you say?' Sandy asked.

'Yes Didi whatever you say I will do' said Meera thanking her stars that were favoring her for the very first time in her life.
