Here I sat, in the confinement of my bedroom. Windows locked shut, and the double doors closed by the key of my mother. The night was much longer when I dealt with my furious mother.
Everything that happened last night ran through my mind.
"What have I done?" I said to myself, looking down at my hands as I sat on my bed.
I've ruined everything. By everything I mean Robert. He was my everything, it seems for a moment but now I feel like I lost it all.
I'm sure now he doesn't trust me, but he has to understand my postion, right? But from the looks of it, he doesn't. And in all honesty, if he'd done the same to me I'll have a similar reaction.
I quickly jumped off my bed, onto my feet, straightening out my dress as I heard my door being unlocked.
"Y/N?" My mother said, opening the door just enough for me to see her face.
"Yes mother?"
"The food is done, I suggest you come and get it while it's hot."
"Yes mother." I nodded.
"And don't forget all your chores today. First, you'll tend to the farm along with the stalls." She continued.
"Indeed mother." I looked down.
"Very well." She said, and I followed behind her, heading to the kitchen to retrieve my breakfast.
Time skip...
My hands were dirty, along with my house dress as I cleaned the stalls for the horses. They nayed and occasionally sniffed my arms as I cleaned which made me giggle.
"There you go boy." I patted my favorite horse, Henry, on his nose as I fed him a apple. He crunched on it like he never seen a apple in his life.
I got back to placing more hay in the stalls after his feeding.
Something caught my eye as I was doing my chore, and it was the neighbor's sons.
They all were dressed in combat like attire, and had swords hanging from their waist. They mounted their horses, and quickly rode into the forest, disappearing within seconds.
"Where might they be going?" I said, furrowing my eyebrows. Henry nayed beside me as if he answered my question.
Robert's POV
I sat tall upon my horse, speaking to a crowd of strong troops. My hand rested on my sword.
"Today, my men... We shall fight for the empire! We shall let no one come through, and take what is rightfully ours!" I shouted, and men shouted in agreement.
"We are one when on the fields, and no man will be left behind. When a brother has been struck with the end of an enemy's sword, we shall pick him up and fight as a family, and leave together." I said. I saw more men coming in.
"This battle signifies not only power, but heart. It does not matter how many more men they have, or how strong their horses may seem... what matters is if we are able to continue without giving up, and the ability to wield our swords till our last breath!"
"For this, my men, we stand a chance. For the empire, and for ourselves! And as your commander, we shall reign! And we shall conquer!" I raised my sword in the air, and the troops copied me; chanting loudly.
My father and mother stood upon the balcony looking down on everyone. I rode my horse back to the castle steps, and dismounted.
I walked inside, and my parents already waited for me. I stood before them, with my commander attire on.
"My son, please be careful." My father began. "We can't afford to lose you."
"I will try my hardest to come home unscathed." I said. "Father I will fight as hard as I can and live up to the title you gave me."
"We raised a strong young man... we believe those words." My mother said.
"I hate to bring this about, but what about your love? That young woman from yesterday?" He asked, as I looked away.
"I don't know... I was going to tell her, but events unfolded that derailed my efforts..." I said. "It's no use."
"Do you believe you'll see her again?" My mother asked.
"Unfortunately, no. I wish I can believe, but there's too many factors that makes me look at reality mother." I looked back at her. "But please do send her this, even if I shan't make it out alive." I handed my mother a folded piece of paper.
"Don't think like that Robert--"
"You're right, I mustn't think like that, or think about it at all. I have a battle to attend." I said.
I hugged my mother and father.
"I love you both." I said.
"We love you too son." My father said, and I turned to leave.
I headed down the steps to my horse, and got on him. I rode down to the troops, then stopped.
"Come, my men! Off we go!" I shouted, and everyone situated themselves, and mounted their horses.
"To the Hughes!" They shouted, and all you heard was a stampede of hooves, riding off into the forest.
I stayed behind a few seconds and let them leave first. I looked behind me and saw the staff and my parents standing outside.
