"You can't keep doing this Hank!" I said, as he began to walk out the house in frustration.

"And why not!?" He snapped, turning back to look at me.

"You always decide that leaving the house cures all problems but it doesn't!" I shouted back.

"Can't you see what I'm going through!? I have cases piled on top of each other that I have to tend to, 19 clients that are almost impossible to even defend, and I have a dysfunctional family on top of those!"

"You signed up for that! You wanted to be a lawyer! I have more to do running OUR law firm, handling hundreds of my own cases, and trying to raise our daughter basically by my damn self because you're never here Hank!" I shouted. "And if you're talking about dysfunctional, take a look at yourself."

He stayed silent.

"You never used to be like this..." I said, a little more calm. "What happened to you?" I shook my head.

Hank clenched his jaw, and just walked out, like he always does. He slammed the front door behind him, and my eyes became watery.

I went to the kitchen, and sat down at the table. I placed my head in my hands, as the tears fell.

Hank and I have lately been arguing more, and it seems as though we are slowly pushing each other away.

We argue about mostly work, and how Hank is never there at home. I need help sometimes with raising Lauren. Many times I'm so busy with the law firm that I don't come home till 11 pm.

We could actually just be stressed from work, and taking it out on each other, but the last thing I want is a divorce.

I really love Hank, and I can never imagine my life without him. I just hope that we can get past all these recent arguments, resolve the problems we have and get back to how we were.

A picture perfect, happy family.

I hear the sound of someone coming down the stairs, but I don't even bother taking my head out my hands.

I feel a little hand on my back, and I finally decide to look up.

"Mommy, are you ok?" Lauren asked, with sympathetic eyes.

I try to put on a smile for her, but she could tell it was fake.

"I'm fine honey." I say, as the tears dried on my cheeks. "Did you finish your homework?"

"Almost, but you and daddy was arguing..." She looked down at her hands.

"Come here." I pulled her close to me and gave her a hug. "I'm sorry honey."

There was a little silence, as I broke the hug.

"Mom?" She said.

"Yes?"

"Are you and daddy going to divorce?" Lauren asked.

"No Lauren, don't think like that."

"But mommy I'm scared. I don't want you guys to divorce. I don't want to be like my other friends. All their parents divorced." She had a saddened look on her face.

"Lauren we are not going to divorce. You don't need to worry, ok? Mommy and Daddy are going to be fine." I said to her. She seemed a little more hopeful.

"Promise?" She asked.

"I promise." I said, sticking my pinky finger out. She wrapped her little finger around my own, and smiled.

"Now, what homework were you finishing up?" I asked.

"Math." She smiled. "But can you help me out a little?"

"Sure I can." I said, grabbing her hand, and leading her back upstairs. "Come on my little mathematician."

Lauren let out a laugh.

Time skip...

It was late, and Lauren was resting in her bed. I was sitting on the couch, just watching a re-run of the office since there was really nothing else to watch.

I felt myself getting ready for sleep as my eyelids became heavier by the second.

I turned off the tv, and headed upstairs to the bedroom. I changed into my pj's, and got comfortable in bed.

I still was thinking about what happened earlier, and I hated the way the bed felt when Hank wasn't by my side.

He still wasn't home, and I was worried. I wondered where he went for 2 hours. I had a bad idea of maybe where and what he could be doing but I didn't want to think of the worst.

I just closed my eyes, and went to sleep.

About 30 minutes later...

I woke slowly from my sleep after I felt a warm body next to my own. There was a strong arm draped across my stomach that was holding me close.

I looked over and my eyes locked with Hank's. The moonlight coming through the window was on his handsome face.

Before I could say anything, he spoke up.

"I'm sorry." He began. "I'm sorry about how I'm never here. The yelling, and how I've been a ass lately. How I just thought the whole world revolved around me, and never considered how it effects you and Lauren. I've just been a hot mess lately, and I'm mad at myself that I took it out on you."

"I never meant what I said earlier either. That was just dumb and stupid of me to say. I have no idea what I was thinking."

I looked him in the eyes, as he brushed the hair out of my face.

"I accept your apology." I said, and he gave a light smile. "Let's make a deal that the argument earlier will be the last."

"It's a deal baby."

"Good." I said, and he gave me a kiss.

"And just to let you know. I was at the park, collecting myself as I watched the sun go down. I could sense from there that you were worried." He said.

"I was." I said, as he pulled me close again.

There was a little silence.

"I was thinking that maybe we should let Lauren stay with my dad for a week. Maybe we could have a little vacation for the two of us."

"That would be perfect. We both need a break from work for a while." I said, as he agreed.

"Alright, I'll call him in the morning." Hank snuggled up to my neck, and closed his eyes.

"I love you, you know that?" He said.

"Yeah I do." I smiled. He kissed the side of my face. "I love you too baby."

I closed my eyes and slowly went back to sleep with Hank by my side.
