I walked through the halls of my home, going straight to my bedroom. I quickly closed the door, and began to cry.

I sat in front of the door, and held my knees up to my chest in a fit of sadness.

I cannot take this thought. This cannot be at all. The king doesn't even know that I'm 18, and this cannot be true. Robert cannot be my half brother.

I wiped my tears away, trying to reason with myself that he most likely won't be that to me. I'm thinking of everything that can take my mind off of this.

I heard a knock on my door, and I stood up to ready myself.

"Open up darling, why did you look so sad when you walked in." My mother's soothing voice said from the other side of my door.

I placed my hand on the door knob, and opened up. I stood before her with red eyes, and dried tears.

"Where have you gone? What's wrong?" She asked.

"Just took Henry for a ride..." I said, not telling the whole truth.

"And that caused you to storm in here and cry?" She furrowed her eyebrows. "There's more to--"

I cut her off.

"Who's my father?" I asked, my eyes watering again. She looked at me with confused eyes.

"Didn't I tell you that I don't know where your fath--"

"Is it the king?" I said, and she stopped. "King Downey?"

"What! Where are you getting this?" She furrowed her eyebrows.

"Mother I ask of you, just please answer the question." Tears began to flow down my face. "Is he my father?"

My mother said nothing.

Robert's POV

I laid down on the plush grass in my own blood, and looked around. The trees were on fire from torches that the other men threw on them for markings.

Half of my men were dead, but the majority of the enemy were scattered across the field.

We won the battle, but I have a battle of my own. Trying to stay alive.

I glanced down at my stomach where the sword once was. My right sleeve was ripped off, and the large cut on my arm was exposed.

I had blood on me everywhere, but the worst part was that I was in a place where no one saw me. I had to take cover, I had to hide for a moment.

I tried to move, I tried to send some type of signal that I was far towards the end of the trees but I couldn't. I was in too much pain.

I saw one of my men looking for anyone who was still alive. He had cuts on his legs but he wasn't that badly injured.

He got on his horse, and began to ride away. More than likely to tell my father the news.

I knew I wasn't coming back home. I knew I was going to die here. I felt myself slowly dying. I thought of everything back home. I thought of y/n.

I won't be back, but I do hope she finds someone better than me that can care for her. I wish her well, and a farewell from her love.

I've come to a point of no return.

4 days later...

Y/n's POV

I was doing chores for mother as my mind ran wild with thoughts.

My mother explained to me who my father was. It wasn't the king, but another man who was servant to him one point in time.

She never explained what happened between her and the king, and she vowed she wouldn't tell anyone.

I feel better now that I know that he isn't my father. I can still look to Robert as my love and not as a half brother. I'm glad that this was the outcome.

I heard a knock at the door, and I wiped my hands in the cloth after putting a dish away.

"I'll get it!" I shouted, wanting my mother to hear. I walked towards the door and opened it. I was greeted by a man who looked to be sent from the kingdom.

"Miss..." The man said, kneeling before me. He held a flag in his hands. "Our condolences."

My heart stopped.

"No..." I shook my head, and placed my hand to my mouth in disbelief. "Please, no." I began to cry.

"The whole kingdom is mourning." He said, looking up at me. "The king requested you."

"Do I leave now?" I asked, my mother began to walk behind me to see what was going on.

"You leave when you are ready to. We understand if you don't want to come so urgently." He explained.

"I wish to leave now..." I said, looking away.

"Leave where? What is all this? Who are you?" My mother questioned.

"Mother, I have to go." I said, looking into her eyes. "There's been a death."

"Of who?"

"The prince my lady." The man said before I could.

I just stared at my mother. She had saddened eyes, but I knew she still didn't really want me to go. She didn't even know that the king himself wanted to grant the kingdom to me.

"I'm sorry for your loss." She looked away.

"Are you really?" I asked, and walked out the door. The man allowed me to ride on the back of his horse.

My mother went after me.

"Must you leave now?" She asked. The man helped me onto the horse.

"She is princess my lady, she may go when she pleases." The man said, and I just got ready to leave.

"Princess?" She asked confused.

"The king requested y/n to take the place of the deceased prince."

"When was this arranged?" She questioned.

"We shall be going. Please respect my decision." I said, and my mother stopped her questioning. The man joined me on the horse.

He rode me away to the kingdom, and I glanced back at my mother who just stood there. She did nothing, and she couldn't do anything.

I looked away, and with that we were deep into the forest.
