I raced out the door to meet my dad in the car. It was so exciting that I was gonna be on the Ellen Show. It really is a pleasure. I was going on there for my story on "The Forgotten Girl" which has spread along the east coast. Because of a car crash, I'm famous. Very crucial in ways. Like, what if people mistake me for the one who caused the crash. But I wouldn't. A new question popped up: do I use the real names of these people? Do I use Kelly's real name? And Ethan's? I wouldn't worry about it.
My heart was racing, like a greyhound racing. It was pumping out of my chest. I was just daydreaming about everything. Meeting someone famous on the plane, meeting someone famous on Ellen. Everything. A dozen questions in my head. I asked every single question in my head, and answered each one at a time. That took so long, that I was at the airport already.
"McKenna, we're here." My dad snapped his fingers to get my attention.
I stared at the airport with wide eyes. It was pleasing to the eye, slim glass windows everywhere. Palm trees standing side by side. It was huge too. We turned into the car parking area. We got a ticket and drove to find a spot. The spot we found was very close to the bus stop to the airport itself. If that makes sense. I got my stuff out of the car and waited at the bus station.
"I'm so excited!" I yelled.
"I'm excited for you." He nodded back.
I heard a whoosh from the left of the bus station. I looked over and sure enough there was a bus coming to pick us up and take us to the airport. The bus stopped in front of the little glass hut. The doors opened to the side and a man walked in front of them.
"Good morning!" He said very enthusiastically.
"Good morning sir!" I replied back.
"May I help you with your bags?"
"Right here" my dad said
"Okay sir!" The man picked up my bag and hauled it up onto a shelf.
We boarded on and sat by the doors. I admired how the bus was laid out. Only because it was better, and more comfortable I may add, than a regular school bus.
We left the parking lot and started to the airport, which was a 2 minute ride. We arrived at the airport and we got off.
"Thank you! Have a fantastic day" my dad called back to the man. The man waved back, and we were off to the gate. We passed booths for purchasing boarding passes and walked up to an empty line for security. I twisted and turned through the line and boundaries made of fabric. I passed a sign that read "please take out your ID and have it ready." An another that said "kids under 12 do not have to take their shoes. Kids over 12 must take off their shoes."
We got to the beginning of the line and a security guard met us.
"Please go to lane 3 ma'am." He said directing to lane 3. I did as he said and I took my bag to the lane. I took out my boarding pass and put my ID on top once I got to the lane. I held out my things and the guard took it from my hand. He scribbled on it in approvement.
"Please take off all loose clothing, shoes, and belts. Then proceed to the detector." I did as he said and took off my shoes and sweatshirt. I put them in a box and put my bag on the belt.
I walked to the spinning doors on the detector. The guard motioned for me to enter. "Spread your feet apart and place your hands on your head." As I placed my hands on my head, I heard the doors revolving. They stopped spinning and I heard a beep beep.
"Your good to go ma'am!" They guard called out. I went to the end of the belt to meet my bag. I slipped my flip flops back on and my sweatshirt as well. I picked up my bag and sat on the bench.
I looked at the screen for the list of departures. Our flight didn't leave for another hour. It was 3:55 in the morning and I was tired. My dad met me at the bench.
"I'm going to go to Starbucks and walk around a little bit." I stood up and started walking towards the Starbucks. There was no one in the airport. I would see a person here and there but not everywhere. I walked up into the vacant line and ordered a Venti vanilla frappucino with caramel drizzle and a shot of coffee.
"Thank you!" I waved and walked in the wide, empty hall thing. I saw a plaid pantry near by so I walked over to it. My plan was to get Arizona tea for the plane ride, so I walked over to the back refrigerators to pick out some tea. I settled on Mango, Sparkling Cherry Lime, Peach, and Watermelon.
"That'll be $3.96 please."
I paid my money and met my dad back at the bench.
"Just in time. They are pre-boarding. Which is you. Good bye sweetie!"
"Goodbye dad!"
I picked up my bags and Arizonas and headed into the pathway to the plane. I continued to sit in the front where it's the quietest. I picked the window seat on the right because you can see the prettiest places there.
Other people started to board. Not many, maybe like, ten. But no one sat by me, so I had the while row to myself. After about forever, the plane took off. And that have me permission to fall into a deep slumber.
