I looked down at all the people. I would say they were like ants, but that's cliché. They were microscopic. I looked to my left.
"Elevation: 100 feet." I read aloud.
The cart started rolling. I looked ahead. The hill was steep, and it swirled. That's why it's called Time Vortex, it swirls like you are actually going through a time vortex. We screamed like everybody else. Round and around we went. Finally the spinning stopped and we curved into another loop. I got super dizzy. Thank god the ride stopped soon enough. Jake was just fine. I ran to the nearest bench.
"Are you okay?" Jake ran after me.
" I need water and ibuprofen and I'll be fine." Jake got up and ran to a stand. It took forever. At one point in time I thought he abandoned me. He came back with a bottle of water and a container of ibuprofen.
"How many?"
I held up two fingers. He shook the bottle and two tablets poured out. He opened the water and handed them to me. I threw the tablets in my mouth and took a huge gulp of the cold water. In fact, it was do cold my teeth were freezing. My teeth are very sensitive.
"How bout a more, calmer ride." Jake patted my back.
"Yeah" I scoffed. He looked around and saw a race car rink. "How bout race cars?" He turned back to me and pointed to the rink.
"Sure!" I was feeling much better now and I was up to it.
We walked to the line and stood in it. It wasn't that long. But I could see the competition in peoples' eyes. There were kids from ten to fourteen, adults from eighteen to fifty. The cars from the previous people were pulling up and exiting the cars.
We flashed our bracelets to the guy and he let us in. Jake drove car number 17 and I drove car number 6. I buckled in, tightened my seat belt, and looked at Jake with a competitive look. We motioned "you're going down" and "you're dead meat" to each other while the guy was explaining the rules.
The lights flashed red, yellow, then green. I slammed on the pedal and raced towards Jake, who was quite a ways in front of me. I sped passed other cars. Curve after curve, lap after lap. Just chasing Jake all the time. The lights on the track turned yellow, which meant last lap. I went around the track, finally in front of Jake, one more time before going back. I waited until all cars were parked. Then, I unbuckled and waited for Jake outside the gates.
"How did you like that?" I flicked my eyebrows up.
"Of course! You are the best driver ever!" He winked.
"Now what?" I checked my phone and it was 6:49 already.
"What time does the park close?" I asked.
"Not until 11" he flashed his smile down to me.
"Do you want to get ice cream?" I asked pointing to an ice cream stand.
"Always!"
We walked up to the stand and looked at the ice cream.
"Can I have a double scoop of... Cookies and cream with whipped cream, a lot of sprinkles, and butterscotch sauce? In a bowl please." I asked the man standing behind the ice cream. He nodded and started scooping.
"Can I have rocky road with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and a cherry please?" Jake asked the girl that was helping him. She smiled at him. She was about our age. 15 or 16 I would say.
We got our ice cream and the girl handed him the receipt.
"Call me sometime." She said. He looked at it. "No thanks." He said ripping off the number.
"Why'd you do that? She was cute." I was bummed he didn't take it. Not like I wanted him to take it and call her after our date, but I'm surprised he didn't take it.
"Because I don't need her."
"She's prettier-" he put his finger up to my lips.
"No she's not. You're all I need."
I smiled at that comment. He was such a gentleman. We sat down to eat our ice cream.
"Can I try yours?" Jake pointed his spoon at my bowl.
"Sure." I cleared my spoon out if the way do he could get some. He tasted the spoonful of ice cream.
"Mmm!" He moaned. "That's good! I love the texture of the whipped cream, sprinkles, and butterscotch sauce all at once!" He shouted.
"I know!" We continued eating our ice cream, jut talking about random things.
"Whew, I'm stuffed." Jake sat back in his chair putting his hand on his stomach.
"You only ate a bowl of ice cream!" I yelled leaning forward.
"It's 7:30. What to do what to do." Jake said.
There wasn't a sign of the sun setting anytime soon. Maybe for another hour the sun has been up. I looked around and saw a sign that pointed to a tent.
"There's a movie on in the tent! Let's check it out." I said pointing towards the red and white stripped tent.
We threw away our garbage, walked toward the tent, and peeked inside. It was my favorite movie that was playing and nobody was there.
"OH OH OH LIAR LIAR!" I screamed.
"And it's just starting." Jake looked down and met my eyes. We smiled at each other. I pulled him to the front blanket and plopped him down.
