Monday morning
I woke up around ten, ready to go for my exciting day. I went into the bathroom to take a quick shower, brush my teeth, and wash my face.
*sings in shower, hums while brushing teeth, washes face*
I went to my suitcase to pick out a cute, corky outfit. A nice pink three-quarter half shirt (with a tank top under it of course) with LOVE written in black cursive surrounded by a black heart, a black skirt, black tights, and high heels.
I decided to curl my hair and pull two clumps back. I looked really cute and corky. It was about 11:30 and I had to be there by 12. I was right on time. I met Bill at the front of the hotel, he was leaning on the limo, but them straightened up to open the door for me.
"Thank you Bill!" I climbed in and put on my seatbelt.
"It's about an eighteen minute drive from here to Burbank, maybe even seventeen if there isn't traffic." Bill explained.
"Great! You are amazing."
"Why, thank you Miss Kenna."
And Bill was correct, it was only a 15 minute drive, since we hit all the green lights. We were at the studio already.
I walked in, thinking it would be chaotic. Once again someone was right. Make-up people scurrying, directors making sure everything is in place, etc.
"Oh McKenna Walker?" A lady with a clipboard in her hand screeched.
"Yes ma'am."
"Here." She pushed me to a mirror backstage. "Jo Ann will do your makeup." And she scurried off somewhere else.
"I'm Jo Ann. Just doing little touch ups." Jo Ann took out brushes and makeup. I just sat there.
"McKenna? Have you seen McKenna?" I heard a voice call my name. I dare not turn around and mess up my face.
"She's in makeup with Jo Ann." Someone else said.
I heard footsteps come near the mirror from the left. "McKenna right?" Jo Ann swiveled me around on the chair. And there, in front of me was Ellen Degeneres.
"Yep! That's me!" I shook her hand and got out of my chair.
"Great! Now, I don't usually do this, but I requested more time to speak with you. Your story is amazing."
"Thank you ma'am."
"Please, call me Ellen."
"Question. Do I use the real names of the people?"
"Don't bother. It wouldn't go well when you get home"
"And what story do you want? My life story or the accident?"
"Life story would be great."
Then she scurried off because the show was about to begin.
"McKenna Walker, you are on last. But you get more time. Just hang around backstage." said another director.
"Thanks." So I stayed backstage. I ate cookies and snacks. Time went by fast. The same director that greeted me when I walked in, waved me to come wait by the steps. "We are on commercial. I'll tell you when to go."
"Okay." I said. My heart was racing. I was very nervous. Who wouldn't be?
"We are back with a young, teenage girl. Here, with her amazing story, is McKenna Walker." Ellen said.
I walked down the steps, towards the chairs. I hugged Ellen as all of her guests did. Then I took a seat in the right chair, which on TV is the left.
Ellen: "So, McKenna, how did this story get so, national?"
Me: probably the news. I only did one report, but I'm guessing news teams took my cut.
Ellen: I didn't know about your story until things spread on Twitter. I got a bunch of tweets from people telling me to get you.
Me: I'm flattered, I really am.
Ellen: so, tell us your life story.
Me: I was about ten, my mom was sick, and my dad's business wasn't going so well. So we moved from San Fransisco to Miami. I had no friends at the start, like usual. So I was alone at lunch. And one day, a little boy came to my table. Then he blurted "I'm Ethan. And I'm cute!" We talked and blah blah blah. We were friends ever since.
Recently, we went to homecoming together. Right?
Ellen: right
Me: he dropped me off at my house, and he just lives down the highway. Well, not too long after he got into a crash. Pretty big one too.
Ellen: so what happened to cause the crash?
Me: A driver was going 112 miles an hour the wrong way on the road. The car hit a truck, and the pieces and debris from the truck flew into Ethan's car. Ethan obviously went to the hospital. He survived, but part of his brain went. Not a physical piece. He remembered everyone. But not me. Remembered everyone except his only friend.
Ellen: wow. Unbelievable.
Me: yeah.
Ellen: so if you don't mind, I'm going to show a clip if the accident. Just so everyone gets a visual.
Me: I don't mind.
So on the screen behind us, sure enough, was the accident. I teared up a little, but didn't full on cry.
Ellen: how is Ethan doing these days.
Me: better. But he hasn't been quite the same. It was expected after the crash.
Ellen: we are all sorry for your loss.
Ellen pulled out a bouquet of beautiful pink roses from the side of her seat.
Me: Awww! Thanks!
We hugged and I exited the stage. As I did, I saw Ariana Grande!
"Hey! I'm a big fan!" I said.
"Yeah. Cool. Whatever."
Then she went on to perform Problem.
I met Bill at the limo and we drove back to the hotel. It was 1:15 when we got back. And I was starving. So we ordered a hamburger for lunch to bring up to my room. The rest of the night, I just watched TV.
