Ethan's POV
I was taking a nice drive with Kelly, just around town on this lovely day. And Kelly was singing a song, I recognized it. I didn't know from where, but I recognized it.
"Like I try, like I try, like I'm trying too hard cause I'm not being me..." I hear her sing.
"Kelly?"
"Yes hun?"
"What song are you singing?"
"Try Hard by 5sos. Why?"
I pondered for a minute trying to piece everything together. Where have I heard this song? All I remember is someone singing it a lot. She skateboards, and she has dark brown hair. Who is she? I decided to ignore everything.
"Ethan" fingers snapped in my ear.
"What?"
"Why did you want to know?"
"Oh, I've heard it before but I didn't know the title."
"Oh okay. Hey did you know that McKenna girl got a tumor?" I could tell Kelly was happy about what she said.
"No, is she okay?"
"Why do you care? Do you not like me?" Kelly said doubtingly.
"Of course I do. Sorry."
Monday, November 8th
Brooke's POV
It was Monday. Back to school, but it wasn't the same without McKenna. Is one thing if she's gone because of the Ellen show, or a trip. But her being sick and practically dying is another.
When I went to go visit her yesterday, she just had radiation therapy done. Her head still hurt, but she was as happy as could be.
The bell just rung, and I was taking my seat for science. I was tapping my pencil and zoning out. All I could think about was McKenna, and how she was doing.
"Brooke Carter?" I heard my name called.
"Yes?" I said jumping out of my thoughts.
"The principal will see you in your office. Now." Ms. Becky boomed at me
A bunch of 'ooo's came from my classmates, for I was a top student. I never got sent or called to the principal's office. I walked down the hall, and ran into Jake, bumping up against each other.
"Hey, you got sent to the principal's office too?" I asked, obviously confused.
"Yeah, I have no clue why though." Jake replied. I could see the worry and confusion in his brown eyes. We walked in silence down the vacated hall. And we got there just as Leslee got there.
"You too Leslee?" Jake asked. We were all confused on why each other were there. I opened the door to the front office, and followed the signs to the principal with Jake and Leslee trailing behind me. I knocked on the door hard but not rudely.
"Come in." I deep voice called from the other side. We all walked in slowly, and carefully.
"Take a seat." Mr. Waters ordered. "I gathered you here because I'm asking about McKenna. She's been gone a lot, and I'm wondering if you guys have anything to do with it?" He gave us a glare, and he rested on his forearms.
"No sir. She's sick right now." Jake broke the awkward silence.
"With what? Fever? Flu? Harsh cold?" Mr. Waters asked. I know I started to tear up, knowing it was way worse than a little cold, or even the worst possible flu. I looked away, it was emotional. But every time I thought about it, I learned to accept it.
"Erm, uhm... She. Um. Has a brain tumor. About four centimeters in diameter." I said holding up my fingers to show am estimate of the size.
"Oh. Okay. Im sorry to hear that. I know you guys are good friends, or maybe more." Mr. Waters shot a jokingly glare at Jake. His cheeks flushed into a bright red.
McKenna's POV
I woke up, for the millionth time I know, and the room was flooded with flowers, balloons, and cards. Most from friends, and family in San Francisco. Then I heard a knock from the door.
"Come in" I said very lazily. Jasmine appeared with her hands behind her back.
"Hey. Whatcha got there?" I pointed to her hands. She got it out from her back and revealed a book.
"Your dad said you were a John Green fan. So I got you this for a 'get well soon' present." The book was 'This Star Won't Go Out: The life and words of Esther Grace Earl'. Everyone is talking about how amazingly written it is and how emotional. "Do you like it?"
No words managed to come out so I just nodded my head. I hugged Jasmine,"I love it."
"Good."
*4:15, one hour after school ends.*
I was allowed to get up and walk around the hospital, as long as I was hooked up to everything. So, I called in Jasmine to help me. We walked down the halls, the emergency room was filled with anxious people, and I was very happy to see patients leaving with a huge smile, not too healthy or in shape, but leaving.
We got to the cafeteria which had ice cream, jello, salads, pudding, hamburgers. Basic food.
"Can I have a huge bowl of pudding? Preferably chocolate." I asked looking at the menu.
"Sure. Can you pay me back?"
"Yeah."
"I was just kidding." Jasmine said right before she ordered me my pudding. I say down because I was so tired. I got tired really easily since September really. But since Friday or so. Jasmine came with my pudding, and we talked for about five minutes, when Brooke and Leslee came in. With a bit of a surprise too.
(A/N: hey guys! How's the story so far? Sorry it's got a bit boring, but it's going to be for two more parts. Then it'll get more hyped up I promise. I just need a beautiful destination. Anywhere. You'll see why. But keep reading! Please! ily guys! ~Jordyn_Mikele)
