McKenna's POV
"Hey McKenna!" Brooke screeched greeting me with a huge smile. Leslee was following Brooke but a little behind.
"Hey..? Why are you so happy?" I asked opening my locker.
"Well it's my huge birthday slumber party this Friday, and well we're friends aren't we?" Leslee was now caught up to us and she greeted me with a huge smile as well.
"Yeah, are you implying that I'm invited?" I closed my locker and started walking to math.
"Yep! It's always a lot of fun! Mani pedis, pillow fights, movies. It's fantabulous." She explained.
"I'll be there!" I walked into the classroom leaving Brooke and Leslee behind. I couldn't wait till Friday, my first sleepover with girls. My first everything since Ethan has been gone. The bell rang, I sat down and got ready for the day.
*Friday, November 5th 4:30 pm.*
"Bye Dad! I love you!" I called back as I went out the door and to my car. As I started towards Brooke's neighborhood, I could already tell she had a nice house. The houses on the way were two stories, nice windows, beautiful walkways to the doors.
I arrived at her house and I was right, she had a beautiful house. It was brown, with windows that were outlined with white boards, a brick walkway that lead up to her doorway, and beautiful, colorful flowers. I parked my car, grabbed my stuff out of the back and knocked on her door. Frankly, Brooke answered the door.
"Hey!" I smiled.
"Come on in! The other girls will be here soon." Brooke gestured me in and I followed her instructions. The hall was a beautifully floored with wood, the living room and stairs where covered in pearl white carpet, she had black couches, and the railings was wood handling and black metal to protect people from falling. It was very beautiful.
I followed Brooke up the stairs to her room. I set down my bags and just admired her room.
"Sorry it's a little messy"-even though it was perfectly clean- "you're free to use the computer anytime, here are the movies." She pointed to the top row of the black shelf. There were so many movies. From little kid movies to scary movies. It was pretty amazing.
"Do you have ibuprofen? I have a little headache." I asked rubbing my head.
"Yeah. Downstairs in the kitchen. When you go to the microwave, it's in the cabinet to your right." She smiled.
"Thanks." I went downstairs and sure enough there was ibuprofen. I took two tablets with a bottle of water. I figured it was like, a headache from the heat. It was after all almost 105° outside.
I heard several girls enter from the doorway all excited. I peeked around the corner and three girls where excited to be here.
"Hi, I'm McKenna." I said stepping towards them. I swear it was as nice as can be, but they have me a glare like I wasn't supposed to be here.
"This is Ava, Meghan, and Claire. Guys this is McKenna."
"Hi." They snooted. "What should we do first?" Meghan piped up.
"Well my parents will be home in about an hour, so how bout we go swimming?" Brooke mentioned.
"Oh I didn't bring a suit." I said meekly.
Meghan and Claire glared at me as Ava went with Brooke and Leslee to pick out a suit.
"Listen here, bitch. You don't belong here. Go back to Loserville and stay there." Meghan hissed.
"Meghan! I need you!" Leslee yelled.
"Coming!" Meghan shouted back nicely. Then she glared back at me and then flipped me off.
Brooke came down in a bright orange bikini and a towel. "Do you want to borrow a suit? I have a ton." She asked
"No. My headache is getting worse. I'll just lay down and start a movie."
"Okay. You sure?"
"Yeah."
"I'll order a pizza. Hawaiian?"
"Sure." I moaned while going to the couch. Brooke left and came back with an ice pack and a water.
"Thanks." I moaned. Then I heard her order pizza. The sound drowned out and I fell asleep, all at once.
*•*•*•*•*•*•*
It must've been a long time I was asleep. At least for two hours, it was darkening outside, and the girls were watching Anchorman. Brooke looked at me and walked over to where I was.
"We saved a couple pieces of pizza for you. You can heat them up in the microwave." She smiled and returned to her seat. Meghan jut rolled her eyes.
I sat up, got the two pieces of pizza, and went to the kitchen. I pulled out a plate and slapped the pizza on it. As I lifted up the plate to the microwave, I dropped the plate. I fell on my knees and grabbed my head. In an unreachable place in my brain, pain shot through. It felt like it was growing. I screamed at the top of my lungs in pain. Brooke rushed in and her parents and Leslee followed. Shattered glass everywhere.
Brooke was crying on the phone. "I need an ambulance" she cried. Leslee was crying too. Brooke's mom was on the phone with my dad. I kept screaming, and I heard sirens. Paramedics came bursting through the door. Two paramedics lifted me up and carried me to a stretcher. Then I disappeared into the ambulance, the pain was getting worse. Then I was off to the hospital.
"How bad is the pain on a scale from one to ten?" A man asked me. I held up ten fingers while breathing hard. "Okay sweetie just hold on. We're almost there."
