As I slowly approached to where she was sitting her eyes shot up and stared at me terrified. She looked like she was ready to go back out the window.
I raised my hands up to show her that I meant her no harm.
"H-hey, I'm not going to hurt you." I said calmly.
She continued to stare while shivering. She had no seams on her body, so she's not a cyborg.
I took my jacket off to wrap it around her, but her body stiffened. She was afraid of me.
Instead of wrapping her myself I just handed her the jacket. "Here, so you can keep warm."
Her gaze shifted from me to my jacket and she quickly grabbed it from me. She stared at me again like if she was waiting for permission to put it on. If it was OK for her to use it.
"It's fine, use it." I told her with a lighter tone. I didn't want to scare her off.
She put it on and her shivering was becoming less aggressive.
"What's your name?" I asked.
"Y-Yumi"
Her eyes were a similar in shape to mine, high and prominent cheekbones which enhanced the shape of her face. Her skin flawless and rosy from the cold. Her lips are plump in a tasteful and delicate way. Her eyes were clearly a robotic enhancement as they shimmered a pale silver depending on the light. She looked to be in her twenties.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Yoongi."
She continued to stare at me, like she was studying me.
"Why are you here in my office Yumi?"
She looked down.
"I don't really remember much. All I know was that I was in a..."
"A hospital?"
"I think so.... and this man told these other men to kill me. So, they put me into their vehicle and when I had the chance I ran away." She shivered at the thought.
"So, you don't remember anything before the hospital? Where you used to live?" I pressed.
"N-no. Just darkness. The man called me Yumi so I assumed that was my name."
"Do you know the man's name?" This had to be related to the black market somehow.
"No but, He was like you..." Her hand reached out hesitantly, and her fingertips traces the seams on my face. She pulled her hand back when she realized she might have done something rude. I wasn't offended but intrigued by her curiosity and forwardness.
She was still shivering and wet.
"Let's get you a warm shower and some dry clothes, OK?" I still wanted to be cautious as she still seemed jumpy.
She only nodded her head in agreement. She followed me to one of the many apartments the library has, my apartment I never use. That way if anyone looks for her they won't know that one of the apartments aren't vacant. I know the feeling of not knowing what is happening to you all too well. So, I wanted her to feel safe. As safe as the library has always made me feel.
I turned the shower on to a warm temperature.
"Take all the time you need, I'll leave new clothes for you on the bed. You can come back to my office when you're ready, we can try to figure out what we can do for you then OK?"
"Okay." She was about to enter the bathroom when I stopped her with another question.
"Make sure you don't have any strange scars on your body. If you do let me know. Might give me an idea of where you were."
"I will..." She slightly smiled. "Thank you... Yoongi" She delicately closed the bathroom door behind her.
I left the apartment and panic started to settle in. What was I doing? What if she's lying? What if she's a criminal?
"What if she is the change your life needs?" I knew that voice all too well. I turned to see him.
"Hoseok..."
