"Are you sure you remember this symbol?" I asked her.
"Yes. I saw it on one of the screens in the room I was in."
"Maybe it was just an advertisement?" Jimin added.
That's a possibility.
"You told me to tell you anything I remember" she said feeling a bit disappointed that it wasn't much of a clue.
"Yeah it's good you told us we'll think of it some more."
We continued to wander around the city. It wasn't raining today which is a rare occurrence. She didn't seem to recognize anything else as we made it to the other side of town. It was well into midnight.
"I guess it was a different level of town huh?" I asked her.
"It might have been. Everything is new to me."
Jimin's phone went off and he stepped away a moment to respond.
I then realized she didn't eat anything today.
"Are you hungry?"
She seemed a little confused by my question.
"I guess I am."
"Hey Yoongi, is it alright if I head back to my apartment. Tae just got back, and he says he has something."
Seeing that the day was uneventful, "Sure. Will you go back to the library in the morning?"
"Yeah, first thing!" he ran away. Must be urgent. I hope Tae is alright.
Yumi and I walked down to the subway levels. It became painfully obvious that it was just the two of us. At least Jimin was more talkative and there wasn't this awkward silence. We made it to the station.
"Can I ask you something?" She was a lot more serious in her tone, which surprised me as she was quite cheerful all day.
I gestured for her to ask away. For some reason I couldn't get the words out.
"How did you become a cyborg? Was it your choice?"
Those are loaded questions.
"I was... Forced into this lifestyle..." I explained what it was like back then. That JK01 did this to me. That it was what lead to Hoseok's death.
I wasn't sure why I went into so much detail. It felt easy to let it out. To tell her things I usually kept to myself.
She took it all in and carefully chose her next question.
"Did you find out what that virus was meant for?"
"JK01 died before we could get it out of him."
She looked away. Her expression was difficult to decipher. Did my story trigger something? Or was she trying not to show pity?
She looked directly into my eyes. A sense of clarity in hers that I haven't seen from her before.
"I need to tell you something..."
"What is it?" I pressed.
"I think-" she cut herself off as she pushed me to the side and dodged a blade a man was holding.
It was one of the four men from last night.
She grabbed the hand the blade was in and she expertly hit the mans elbow breaking it as it bent in the opposite direction.
The man screamed in agony.
I looked at the other end of the station. Not only were the three other men there but they had backup with guns.
I didn't have time to process how she was able to do that as they lifted their weapons up to shoot.
Her eyes instead of the silver they usually are were an intense neon yellow.
She looked like she was ready to stay and fight them off.
I grabbed her hand and pulled her with me as we ran for the exit.
They started shooting at us but luckily, we were fast enough that they missed.
I continued running up the escalator hearing the men chasing after us and shooting every so often.
As we ran, and the men didn't have view of us as they were still climbing the escalators I had a choice. We had two ways to go. I knew that to my left we would go to the main roads of the city and I didn't know where the right would lead.
With a glitch Hoseok appeared and pointed to my right.
Yumi was about to run to the left but I pulled her again to go to our right. I pressed my back against the wall once we turned the corner. Holding Yumi close.
The men made it up the escalators and they ran to the left.
I looked at Yumi when I couldn't hear the men any more, checking for any wounds. When I saw that she had none I realized her gaze was on my face. Her eyes that normal silver color.
"You didn't leave me behind..." she stated. It felt like maybe she thought after seeing her do something so violent I would have been afraid of her. But she saved me.
Her body was still pressed against mine, if I had a heart...
Her eyes became yellow again and she grabbed a gun from one of the men that came to check this path I didn't notice. She hit his head knocking him to the ground and she was about to shoot him when her eyes went back to normal.
"Let's go" she whispered, this time grabbing my hand and pulling me down the path we were on.
Now I know...
She's not a killer.
