When Castiel returns to his hotel that night, he immediately opens Twitter. He finds a picture of him holding all of his Grammys from the night and saves it to his phone to tweet it out with the caption, "If this is what being 'over' is like, I don't think it's going to be that bad."

As he waits for people to respond — not that he really has to wait, but the best responses never come early — he searches for Jack's twitter handle and follows him. He does the same on Instagram, after posting the same picture with the caption, "What a great night." On his fun account, he posts it with the caption, "Oooh, shiny!" He changes back to Twitter to check out the responses to his tweet.

"SHOTS FIRED!"

"And that's the tea for today."

"Watch him leave empty handed next year. Karma's a bitch."

"WAIT HE KNEW???"

"Slay queen."

"Castiel Novak, serving the best tea since 2017."

"He just won because otherwise the Academy would seem homophobic."

"I screeched and my cat woke up."

"Legend we stan."

He's surprised to see how positive this is. He knows better than to expect that from his mentions, but he decides to check them, anyway.

"BUT WHAT WERE @CastielNovak AND @Jack8Kline TALKING ABOUT???"

"Lol Castiel and Jack talking during Bela's speech because they both know she's irrelevant."

"LUCIFER'S SO ADORABLE THO HOW CAN ANYONE NOT LOVE HIM?"

"Castiel and Jack Kline totally dissed Bela Talbot when they started talking. Castiel can get away with it because he can play the 'LGBT you must love me' card, but Jack fucked up."

Castiel presses his lips into a straight line. He knew people would be annoyed with him, but he didn't think about how this may affect Jack's reputation. He's not quite sure how to fix that one, so he doesn't. One person disliking the kid isn't too bad.

Except, as it turns out, it isn't just one person. There are quite a few people complaining about that — more than people are complaining that he kept looking at his watch — and Castiel decides that he has to do something to protect Jack's reputation. He's too young and innocent to have to deal with that.

Castiel tweets out, "You're welcome to call me a dick, but leave Jack out of it. He didn't do anything wrong. I know stan Twitter loves a witch hunt, but 15 is too young to deal with that."

Unsurprisingly, there are a whole bunch of comments from confused people who have no idea what he's talking about, but if they don't know, then the tweet wasn't aimed at him. There are also a bunch of comments calling them their "BroTP."

The only comment he acknowledges is the one saying, "But weren't you 15 when this all started for you? Why does everyone underestimate teenagers?"

Castiel retweets that with, "Yes, I was 15, so I know how it feels for a 15-year-old to feel like nothing they do is good enough. No one should have to deal with that." And definitely not to someone as cheerful as Jack.

With that, he turns off his phone. He doesn't need to see what people say to that. He knows people are going to say he's "playing the victim," but he doesn't care. If he can convince one person to leave Jack alone, that's good enough for him.
