Chapter 104

A/N First day back to school fml

"Whatcha doing?" Dean asks, looking over at his boyfriend.

"Cuddling a puppy." To emphasize this, he rests his head on Misha, who sighs happily.

"Well, yeah, I see that," Dean replies. "I mean on your phone. Checking Twitter?"

"About to," Castiel replies. "You wanna see the damage, too?"

"If you're looking anyway, then sure."

Dean sits down on the floor next to him, and Misha barely glances over before closing his eyes, looking peaceful.

Castiel opens Twitter, and is glad to see he's not trending, at least. That always drags in more assholes than just people tweeting him. He searches his name instead of checking his mentions, because he wants to see the most popular tweets, not just the recent.

"GUYS CASTIEL NOVAK IS BACK! @mishacollins @mishacollins @mishacollins"

Castiel is about to like the tweet, but he hesitates. New account means a chance to start fresh. He doesn't have to respond to people. He can just be himself, not the famous him responding to fans and haters that everyone has grown to expect. So he doesn't acknowledge this tweet, or any other ones.

"OH MY GOD GO CHECK OUT @MISHACOLLINS IT'S CASTIEL NOVAK FOR REAL"

"I'm so glad Castiel Novak came back to Twitter. It's been too boring here without him. @mishacollins."

Castiel smiles to himself. "This is going really well so far." He switches over to the latest tweets instead of the most recent instead of the most popular.

"Still trying to get #welcomebackcastiel trending for Castiel Novak's triumphant return."

"Worst few weeks of my life, but at least Castiel Novak finally came back. @mishacollins."

"Anyone else notice how Castiel Novak is only following nobodies?"

"I'm offended," Dean says. "I'm not a nobody. I'm verified and everything. And Lucifer's not a nobody, because he's verified now. And aren't you following Jody? Because she's verified."

"There are a lot of verified nobodies," Castiel replies. "You guys aren't them, but trust me, my verified tab is always full of them."

"Oh, true," Dean agrees. "You should still tell them that you're following a few somebodies, or at least that you're following friends."

Castiel shakes his head. "I'll pass on that."

He continues scrolling through the recent tweets with his name.

"YESSSS CASTIEL NOVAK SLAYED MY LIFE." Attached is some pictures of one of his music videos from three years ago.

"I'm pretty sure ppl who hate Castiel Novak are still glad for @mishacollins cuz they'll take anything of his to pick on."

"#Welcomebackcastiel We're glad you're not dead Castiel Novak @mishacollins."

"I can't tell if that's about Lucifer's thing or my inactivity," Castiel says.

"Both?" Dean suggests.

"Maybe."

"Castiel Novak's @mishacollins isn't even following @taylorswift13 wtf?"

"Can Castiel Novak just come out with a new album now? I'm tired of waiting a whole year!"

"Two weeks off Twitter? How is that not a popularity stunt? Castiel Novak's realizing he's losing it lol."

"CASTIEL NOVAK IS BACK ON TWITTER YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW EXCITED I AM!"

"YASSS CASTIEL NOVAK'S BACK!"

"If anyone's wondering, @mishacollins is the new Castiel Novak account."

"Are we sure @mishacollins is Castiel Novak? He's just following a bunch of random people."

Castiel sighs. "I should probably answer that one."

"Yeah, if you're expecting them to think it's actually you, you should probably tell them that."

Castiel quotes the tweet, saying, "Yep, it's me. Those 'random people' are just friends out of the spotlight."

"And me, Lucifer, and Jody," Dean adds. "We're all in the spotlight."

"True, but that's too many characters to fit in a tweet."

"I should add it myself since you won't," Dean jokes. They both know he doesn't make a habit of getting involved in these types of Twitter conversations.

"YASSSSS CASTIEL NOVAK IS BACKKKKK @mishacollins."

"When's Castiel Novak's album coming out I'm sick of waitinggggg."

"How come Castiel Novak isn't trending? I almost missed the news that he's @mishacollins."

"Waiting for Castiel Novak to come out with a new single. Life's boring without new music."

"Castiel Novak isn't following Taylor swift??? Like they're best friends??? What is this??? @mishacollins @taylorswift13."

"Castiel Novak has been so inactive on Twitter wtf?"

"Waiting for an explanation for why Castiel Novak deleted his Twitter."

"Castiel Novak is back but like he's not tweeting?"

"GUYS CASTIEL NOVAK IS BACK @mishacollins."

"When's Castiel Novak making his Instagram again?"

Castiel sighs. God, is he going to have to explain his entire social media plan in groups of 140 characters or less? He quotes the tweet with his explanation.

"I'm not."

"Wait, that's it?" Dean asks before Castiel can tweet it. "Just 'I'm not'? No explanation or anything?"

"What do you want me to say?" Castiel challenges. "'I don't want to deal with your shit and if I had it my way I wouldn't be on Twitter, either'?"

"Well, no, but..." Dean trails off, apparently not sure himself what Castiel should say.

"Exactly. So let me do it my way," Castiel snaps.

"Okay. God, take a chill pill," Dean mutters.

"Sorry." Castiel gives him a quick kiss on the cheek as an apology.

He's about to tweet his response, but for Dean's sake, he adds a brief, "Sorry about that."

"See, now you sound more approachable," Dean tells him.

"You're one to talk," Castiel says sarcastically.

"Okay, but I'm unapproachable in a cool way," Dean replies confidently. "Your whole thing is how you love your fans and stuff."

"Actually, my whole thing is how people trash talk me and I pretend I don't care," Castiel replies.

"You keep telling yourself that," Dean replies. "But I guarantee that if you go a week without responding to fans, it'll start raising questions."

"Then I guess I shouldn't stop," Castiel replies. "If I could just not get any more attention, we're all good."

Dean pats him on the back. "That's never going to happen, but I'm glad you're still dreaming big."
