"I have no deal." Shane flatly answered. "I'm just a gentleman to the ladies."
"You mean fuckboy." Sean said.
"Better leave your mother and mind your brother, or even yourself. Did you know the broken sign was his art?" Shane said.
"Yeah sure... hey... just mind your business. And better leave this place soon!"
"I'm announcing you I came to stay. If you have a problem, better get on good terms with Doug so he'll pay your college."
"I don't need his money, nor yours!" Sean was almost screaming.
"You need them, but you don't want them. You're stubborn. Your dumbass brother will get ahead of you in no time. You have been warned."
"Who are you to say that?"
"A man with a similar experience." Said Shane.
"For the last time. Mind your business." Sean said pissed like hell.
Shane stood up and left without a word, leaving the blonde haired young man to contemplate at his words. He turned on his heels immediately when he heard a splash followed by a scream.
"Argh!" Sean moaned as he pulled himself out of the river.
"Kid!" Shane said reaching to him and helping him stand. "What's going on? Suicidal thoughts now? At least let me beat you so you can die like a man."
"No...I ahh... tripped. It was an ... accident." Sean said. He seemed to be in some pain.
"You don't seem fine. Are you OK?" Shane said giving his jacket to the wet boy. "You'll catch a cold!"
"I'm fine." Said Sean. At his attempt to walk he crumbled down. Shane caught him just in time.
"You can't walk!" Said Shane.
"I know... ahhh... my ankle hurts!" Sean finally confessed.
"Shit... it's probably sprained. Let me have a look at it." He said placing the boy on the bench.
"You're also a doctor now?"
"No but I can do the first aid. Yes. It's sprained. But it's not bad. In a week it will heal. But you need to get home and put some ice there."
"Not going to try taking me to hospital?"
"Funny story: when I was young I ran from home, tripped and basically broke my arm. The scenario was the same as now except I was alone. I didn't tell anyone for a couple days until my arm started to get purple. Dad finally took me to hospital but even so we lied to mom about what happened. The point is I passed through it and I know hospital is the last place you'd want to be."
"What are you? Future me?" Sean said.
"God bless!" Shane stretched his arm as Sean held him for support.
They reached Valerie 's home and stopped in the yard.
"Nice car you've got!" Shane said pointing at the Chevrolet parked in front of the house.
"Doug Rodel is here. Chill."
"What do you want to tell your mom?" Shane asked.
"I don't know..."
"Let me handle it, OK?"
"Just don't make me sound like a pussy." Sean said as Shane bought him in.
"Sean! Oh my God! You're soaking wet! What happened to you?" Valerie abruptly dat up and walked towards her son when Shane opened the door.
"We met in the park. A child was playing next to the pond when he fell into it. Sean immediately jumped after him, I dragged them out both but unfortunately Sean sprained his ankle in the process." Shane explained.
"I'll take you to the hospital." Doug said.
"No need. It's not that bad it needs only some ice." Shane said. "He's going to be fine, I've seen things like this before. In a week he'll be all new."
