Valerie woke up and left to work without exchanging a word to the boys. She received a text from Shane requesting her to meet him after work.
"Hey, daddy!" Valerie greeted Shane at the said hour.
"Val...hey!"
They met in the park.
"So? What's wrong?"
"I wanted to...umm... talk to you... about the kid."
"Oh" Valerie soon grew nervous.
"Are you sure you want it? I mean... you're not exactly in your first youth... and you already have two... minding another child..."
"Shane, of course I'm keeping him! It's normal to be nervous, it's going to be fine, you'll see!" Valerie said attempting to stroke Shane's cheek.
"Val, no." Shane stopped her. "I can't do this. I can't raise a child. I don't have what it takes! Look, don't be mad at me, but I just can't!" He spat it, no longer being able to hold back.
"What are you telling me Shane?" Valerie told him in a very sad manner.
"Valerie, I think things between us should stop here."
Valerie starred at Shane in shock as she let a tear run down her face.
"I'm sorry Val, I really am. I didn't want to reach here. I'm not a family man..."
"NO YOU'RE NOT! YOU TOOK ADVANTAGE OF ME AND NOW I'M ALONE WITH THREE KIDS!" Valerie screamed.
"Val... Valerie... I'm sorry."
"SHUT YOUR MOUTH!" Valerie slapped Shane hard across the face. "I'm never going to let my child near you!" She said before she turned and left.
'Prick' Robert responded to Shane's text after he told him what just happened. 'Drinks on me.' He said after that.
"Give me something strong!" Shane slammed the door open entering Robert's Houseboat.
"I doubt a pussy like you can handle anything else than water."
"Fuck you! I did what I felt!"
"Well...I'm with you in this, but... oh man what can I say... if you think it was the right thing to do..."
"It's better for the kid. I have no patience and God knows what I'd end up doing."
"That's a point. Anyways, you did what you considered."
"She hates me. And I'm expecting Sean to come and curse me or something."
"I really doubt it would affect you."
"...thanks..."
"Hey! I'm not good at comforting. Be thankful with what you get!"
"Very tasty scotch, thanks!"
The two chuckled and kept drinking wishing their problems would dissappear like the liquid from the bottle.
Valerie was sad all the evening. Bryce didn't really notice, but Sean did and couldn't help, but think it's his fault.
"Mom..." Sean broke the silence. "I'm sorry for yesterday. Please don't be upset. I'm happy I'm having a little brother or sister. And Shane will make a good father!"
"No... you were right! Shane is a prick." Valerie turned to her son and hugged him. "He broke up with me. Said he can't do this!"
Sean remained completely shocked when he heard it. It took him some time to process the whole thing.
"Bastard! I'm going to his house now! That guy is going to pay!" He said totally losing it.
"Leave him. He doesn't deserve the concern. Stay with me..." Valerie tightened her grip around Sean as he set her on the couch. She quietly sobbed in his arms.
Rather than Shane, Sean would go to Doug's house to tell him everything and to have the man who truly loves his mother by her side.
