"Why the hell are you defending him? Did he pay you or anything?" Valerie said to the younger girl.
Alisha looked her dead in the eyes, but was wise enough to keep her mouth shut. Luckily, as Valerie didn't notice, Albert and Holly caught a glipse of what was happening and were heading their way.
"I don't know among who you spend your time with, but I can ensure you me and Alisha are strictly friends, not that it's any of your business anyways." Shane defended the girl around his arm.
"I'll tell you with who you're only friends!" Valerie raged on.
"Excuse me, is there a problem?" Albert stepped protectively in front of Shane and his daughter with Holly by his side.
"We were just talking!" Valerie said sarcastically.
"Quite a heated and loud talk. Especially for a funeral. Miss Vidal, I heard you screaming from across the room. Did our Alisha upset you?" Holly supported her lover.
Valerie was ready to talk back when she was strongly grabbed from behind. She panicked at first but settled down after hearing his voice.
"Valerie, that's enough!" Doug said. It appeared that the argument caught the eye of some people. "I'm sorry, she is very pained by Garret's loss. Forgive her, she meant no harm or mean thing." Doug went on as he tightened his grip on Valerie's arms as a sign to keep her mouth shut.
"It's OK, Douglas. But take care with her. She speaks before she thinks." Alisha responded coldly, fiercely glaring at Valerie who was now in a loosing position. She then led Shane away, followed by her parents.
"What the hell, Doug?" Valerie told him as soon as the others left.
"Valerie! It's a freaking funeral. You can't just go around insulting people like this. It's disrespectful." Doug told her coldly.
"What did Alisha do then?"
"It was a mean remark. Plus, you drew some attention. Do you really want to make a scene about the whole thing here? Just keep quiet and focus on the event." Doug said before distancing himself from the blonde.
Valerie was left alone and realized what an embarrassing moment she just made. She looked towards Alisha who was still around Shane's arm, giggling and talking with other guests. Doug was also smiling and talking to various people. She caught some people even starring at her, but quickly looked away. She couldn't feel worse.
"That's what she deserved. For the paying remark!" Alisha whispered Shane so only they could hear.
"For the record, I was just trying not to seem a douche." Shane said.
"I know. She's just crazy sometimes."
"Whose side are you on, anyways?" Shane smiled to his friend.
"I'm just going with the flow." She said smiling back.
"Ha! You take after your dad!"
"You mean after the millionaire? You all are the same."
"That's why we get along so well!"
"Also true!" The young girl replied.
Eventually, the funeral ended quietly and everyone headed home.
