There is much trouble in Paradise

Chapter 29

The two soon reached home. They ate a little and went to bed still thinking at the good man Garret was.

"I can't imagine what Robert is feeling." Alisha said from under her sheets.

"Think about his wife and kids!" Doug responded from the side. "Sleep now. It's been a hard day!"

"Thanks Douglas. For everything."

"Don't! You remind me of him!" Doug left as he closed the light and the door.

Alisha cried a little before falling asleep and Doug drank some wine before feeling dizzy enough to sleep.

As for the others, Cara remained at the hospital for the formalities as Robert took the children home. Alisha stayed with Simone for a while as Max was comforted by Shane.

"Thanks for the lift!" Alisha said after Shane reached her house. Her parents had already made it there.

"No problem. Hey, I didn't know you're such a good comforter."

"New info for your files!" Alisha chuckled. "You weren't that bad either."

"Info for info only!" Shane chuckled as Alisha closed the door. They really got along well.

Shane made to his home. He ate early and decided he'll go to sleep. Right when he was about to seat in bed the doorbell rang. Shane ran to the front door almost knowing who was there.

"Rob!" He cleared his suspicions as he closed the door behind his friend.

Robert crashed on the cough, crying from the depths of his heart as Shane brought some tissues.

"Pal..." he stroked his back. "He's in a better place now."

Robert moved only to get to the guest room. Shane brought him some water and then both went to sleep.

In the next morning, Shane found Robert sitting on his couch gazing at the sea.

"Still fucked up, huh?" Shane asked him from distance.

"He's fucking dead. Now I have to take care of Cara and the kids." Robert replied. "He made me promise."

"Don't they receive half of the income?"

"You know damn well how money change a person. It's true Cara lived quite in a large style, but now, when she'll receive them in her own hands, do you really think she'll manage them as she should?"

"You're right. Money can drive crazy even the most calm person."

"That's what scares me the most. I really hope everything will stay at least like this."

"Take care, bro, great care."

Robert left around lunch because Cara called him for the funeral ceremony preparations. Shane told him he can also count on his help if needed. It's true Robert and Cara made a great pair, and maybe in the future a great couple, but for now they had to deal with the suffer Garret has left behind.

"Anyways, you are free to take all his stuff, I mean, I'll keep some things of course but there are many things he owned that I don't want anymore." Cara told Robert as they finished the arrangements.

"Yeah, like clothes and stuff, we can give them away maybe, but of course, I can take away the electronics if they're bothering you." Robert said.

"But what is going to happen with the company?" Cara asked.
