Chapter 23

Shane was in the middle of tge phrase when his phone rang.

"Go on, answer." Alisha assured him.

"Won't it be rude?" Shane looked at her.

"Is my name Albert?" She grinned.

"Hello, Rob!"

"Shane! Shane! I need your help!"

"What's wrong?"

"I'm at the hospital!"

"Man! You OK? Or...wait it's not you, right!"

"Garret is bad. Please, I beg you, tell Cara and the kids. Please, it might be the last chance."

"Don't worry, mate. I'll get them."

Shane hung up and got up.

"I'm sorry, but I have to go." He told Alisha.

"What's wrong? Seemed serious."

"Alisha. I'll tell you an info." Shane grabbed Alisha's shoulders. "You know Garret Iverson?"

"Simone Iverson's dad? Of course. He's a good guy, why?"

"Alisha, he has tuberculosis. It's terminal and to make it worse, only Robert knows about that. He's now in hospital in a critical state. I have to announce his wife and kids."

"Oh my God! My thoughts and prayers are with him."

"I have to leave at once."

"Wait, Shane! Please take me with you. I know their family, they are really good people. Please! I want to assist how I can! Shane, please!" Alisha grabbed Shane's hand.

Shane sighed before agreeing and taking Alisha to his car. They arrived at Garret's home and entered nervously.

"Let me talk." Shane told Alisha and she nodded in agreement.

"Shane! Hey! What's up?" Cara answered the door. "Garret isn't home if you're looking for him, oh hey Alisha! Came for Simone?"

"Cara! Bring the kids, we need to talk." Shane said in a serious manner, letting himself in and dragging Alisha after him.

"Huh? Shane, what's wrong?"

"Cara, I need you to listen. Bring the kids."

Cara called Max and Simone and Shane asked them to sit on the couch. They all had a concerned look.

"Guys, I swear I'm not joking, around five years ago Garret was diagnosed with tuberculosis. He didn't told anyone because he thought he'll heal. He didn't. Robert found out by accident and cares for him since then. They haven't had the courage to face you, please forgive them. The point is Garret was rushed to the hospital in an emergency state and Robert begged me to tell you. We have to go to him." Shane spoke.

"Mom?" Max looked at his mom who was crying.

"Let's go!" She sat up and left the house.

Alisha was squeezing Simone's hand in an attempt to comfort her. Shane drove everyone to the hospital.

"We want to see Garret Iverson!" Cara said as she stepped inside the building

"Room nr 5." Said the man at the front desk.

They all rushed to the room where they found Garret hooked up to multiple machines and Robert by his side.

"Guys..." Garret looked towards the door as his wife, kids, Shane and Alisha entered.
