Chapter 3

As I step out of my moms car and I get a feel of the outside of the school. I softly but normally step on the pavement path that leads to the entrance. 'Bounty Hill Middle School' read in the front of the building. I looked behind me and I nodded to tell my mom it was okay to leave, which it truly was. I turned back around and looked at the school once again. I took a deep breath and headed towards the front doors. I didn't know if I was nervous, but I definatly wanted to see how I spent my day since I didn't really remember it.

When I walked in, I gave the lady in the front desk some slip my mother told me to give to them and she told me the directions to my first period class. I went where she told me to go and found the classroom. My first class was math. Since I came late, the class was half way finished. I took yet another deep breath and opened the door with out finishing it my breath, scared as hell.

When I walked in, the teacher stopped talking. All eyes directed towards me. I froze and looked around, seeing if I remembered any faces. What appeared to be the teacher came walking towards me and introduced herself, her name was Mrs. Schuyt. She seemed nice-ish, and she told me where to sit. It was all the way across the class room. I awkwardly walked past all the desks of people staring at me and sat down, with out a word. It was weird, having everyone looking at me. When I sat down, I placed my binder into my desk and looked up. The boy sitting across from me was staring at me.

"What?" I ask suspiciously.

"...Nothing..." He says, now smiling at me. I raise my eyebrows and he grins and looks away. The boy has brown/black hair and blue eyes. I look around the class and everyone is staring at me still, I look back down. The guy was weird, I didn't know him and he was acting like we were friends.

"What?!" I say to everyone, and they look away.

Mrs. Schuyt hands out papers and distinct conversation scatters over the room. I look back at my table. Just me and this strange boy. I look at the paper and set it on my desk, "PreAlgebra" I said to myself aloud.

"Hi, I'm Hayes. And you're Dena. Nice to re-meet you", he says to me holding his hand out expecting me to shake it.

"We're we friends-before?" I ask him, finally shaking his hand, only to be friendly.

"Eh...no, more like aqatinces..." He says with a sketchy voice. There was something else to the answer.

"You're lying." I tell him.

"How'd you--" he cuts himself off.

"So what else aren't you telling me?" I ask Hayes.

He grins and says, "I don't want you to cry on your first day..." And goes to sharpen his pencil. I huffed. What the hell didn that mean, "I don't want you to cry on your first day..."? I tapped my pencil on the corner of my puke green grey desk and sighed, giving a go at the paper. I started to remember what I was doing and finally got the hang of it, finishing my paper. Hayes sat back down, his grin wiped off his face. I staired at him, not saying a word.
