Chapter 48

When we got home, everyone was sad about leaving Hawaii. It was hard to leave such a beautiful place like that and come home to North Carolina. We all sat at the dinner table and ate our soup depressingly, clanking the spoons back to our bowls, then slowly picking them back up.

As the weeks passed, we all got used to NC again and our schedules got back to normal. The only thing that was really different was that school was getting closer and closer again. Eighth grade was coming and it didn't excite Hayes and me.

One night I texted him.

Me: hey.

Hayes: hi...

Me: ew school again, tomorrow is going to be hell.

Hayes: yeah, but at least you'll have me;)

Me: at least.

Then I turned my phone off and went to bed, not ready for tomorrow.

I woke up and felt disgusted that summer was already over. I didn't want to go to school, and certainly Hayes didn't either. I think we both were scared to go back, cause when I woke up and went downstairs for breakfast we both couldn't swallow our food.

We got on the bus and sat together, talking about how horrible it was going to be. We had four classes together, which is actually a lot. The only way I got through the day was by not talking too anyone. I didn't feel, like it, so I didn't.

By the end of the day I felt relieved that the first day was over. Hayes and I talked about people on the bus.

"Hey, so was your first day okay?" Hayes said to me as he sat down beside me.

"Uh, yeah, I hardly talked." I responded, looking out the window.

"I was invited to Zach's party if you want to come with me." He asked me, being polite.

I nodded and smiled at him. Then I looked back out the window and turned up my music. Listening to amnesia.

When I got home, I put some make up on and texted Cassie.

Me: hey, are you going to the party tonight?

Cassie: yeah! See ya there gurla

Me: see ya.

Then I watched spongebob with Hayes in his room and fell asleep on his chest. Luckily he woke me up.

When we got there, it was packed. It wasn't like a high school party or anything, but it was really loud and messy. Zach was going hard core I guess. I walked past two broken lamps and a girl lying on the ground and onto the couch next to Cassie, Jackie, Chase, Zach, Effy and Katie. They all said, hey to me and then Chase pulled a bottle from behind his back. My eyes widened, I knew what was happening.

"Wanna play spin the bottle?" He said, grim in his voice. Everyone lousily agreed and we put ourselves in the order boy girl boy and making sure every girl was across from a boy. He spun the bottle and it took a good fifteen seconds for it to stop. It landed on Cassie and Chase. I had no problem with Chase because I found out that his dad sexually abused him. It was no excuse, but it is a big perspective shifter. They leaned over the table, slightly sitting up and kissed, like they meant it.

I grabbed a sprite and opened it, "Well if it isn't the couple of the year, how long?" I asked them.

They both blushed. Then Cassie announced, "two months..." I shook my head and looked down. Then Cassie spun the bottle this time. It stopped and landed on Zach and I. I looked at Hayes in that 'signal of approval' look and he slightly nodded. I sat up a bit and kissed him. He was really bad. I almost wiped my mouth. I looked back and Hayes and tilted my head so no one would see me, then pretended to put two fingers down my throat. He laughed and everyone asked what, he just nodded 'nothing'.

After playing spin the bottle one too many times, our little group decided to go outside and jump on the trampoline. We all jumped for a while, Zach hit his head on a pole and Hayes for pantsed.

Chase started acting all weird all of the sudden, "oh my god, guys did you see that?" He said, looking into the woods. We all looked to where he was and saw nothing. We all responded the same 'no'. "No, guys seriously. Didn't you see that?" He said. Getting out of the trampoline and standing at the edge of the woods.

We all looked at each other and laughed, thinking that Chase lost it or something. "No, Chase, we don't." Katie said to him, laughing at the end. Then he started slowly taking steps I got the woods, we all got up and followed him, telling him to come back.

He must've been running because we lost him.
