Chapter 26

I woke up at 7:34, and I had to be at Katie's house by 8:00. I told my mom that I was going to walk to Cassie's house since she was so close, but instead walked to Hayes since his mom was dropping off Hayes, Cassie and I.

I got there just I'm time and Cassie came after me. I hugged Hayes when I saw him and he kissed me on the cheek. Cassie awed at us and we all laughed. Hayes mom dropped us off and we got to Katie's house and started loading up the van. Katie and I were the haulers, so we had to toss the bags into the back of the van.

"So, are you and Hayes going to sleep in the same tent?" Katie asked me whispering.

"Uh, most likely, why?" I asked her.

"Because, one of Hayes friends likes you." She said curling up one of her cheeks to form a half smile.

"Which one?" I asked her, hauling the last bag into the back.

"Chase." She said as we both leaned against the back ledge catching our breaths.

"Oh." I said. "Hopefully nothing goes down." I remarked as Katie closed the back door and Emily came to the back.

"We're all ready, come on." Emily said to us. Katie and I looked at each other and I sighed. I really didn't want anything to happen.

We all got in the van and Katie and Emily's mother drove us all. She was going to be staying with us. In the far back was Jack, Katie and Cassie. Then in front of them was Hayes and I and sitting in shotgun was Emily. We were supposed to meet Effy, Pandora, Zach, Chase, and Mini there since there wasn't enough room for everyone in one van. Mrs. Fitch's car was first so we unloaded the bags and set up our site.

"Are, are we sharing a tent?" I asked Hayes while he was setting up a tent.

"Duh, what did you expect? For us to go on a camping trip and not sleep in the same tent together?" Hayes said snarling. He laughed and seemed pretty serious.

"Sorry..." I said feeling dumb.

"No, it's all good!" He responded and grabbed my hand and released it.

The others pulled up and started setting their tents up next to ours. Effy and Zach started a fire for hotdogs and s'mores and Hayes and everyone huddled around the fire.

"What are we doing tomorrow?" Asked Chase.

"We are going down to this waterfall and then a water balloon fight." Emily said.

No one responded as we enjoyed our lunch/dinner and just hung out for the rest of the night. Everyone told childhood stories and we all laughed our heads off.

When night came, everyone said goodnight and headed back to their tents. Hayes and I followed everyone's movements.

When we got in, Hayes zipped up the tent and eased his way into a laying position next to me. I smiled at him.

"We're keeping this safe, okay?" I said, being brutally honest.

"Fine.." Hayes said. I raised my eyebrows and he started laughing. He rolled around onto his stomach and put his hands behind his head. I rested my head on his stomach/chest and he put his arm around me. I wrapped my arms around his stomach.

"Hayes?"

"Mhm" he responded.

"Do you love me?" I asked him sitting up. He sat up too.

"We'll, I don't know if it's love, but it surely does feel like it." He said to me. He moved his arms back behind his hips, supporting his weight with his hands. I laid back down next to him.

"Why?" He asked.

"Eh- I was just wondering." I said to him shrugging my shoulders. Hayes laid down next to me facing my face, inches apart.

"Dena, I love you so much, it's not even defined as love." Hayes said to me, brushing my hair out of my face. I looked up at him. He laid his hand on my left cheek and pulled his face into a kiss.

And with his kiss, it brought night.
