Chapter 17 - Cochlea Part 2

(Y/N) POV:

"His crossed..." I said as I quickly looked back at Ayato, who had almost reached me when he widened his eyes. Ayato then brought out his kagune and leaped towards me, landing in between me and Kaneki. I looked at him as I saw that he had blocked an attack from Kaneki, yet Kaneki hadn't moved a muscle.

"Ayato no! Get away from him! He isn't himself right now!" I yelled as I took hold of Ayato's arm, trying to hold him back.

"I can see that (Y/N)! His a kakuja... Apparently. But that doesn't mean I'll let him do whatever he wants, especially not when it can hurt you." Ayato said as he broke free from me and forced Kaneki's kagune back. I couldn't see half of Kaneki's face, thanks to the mask, it looked like he was grinning at us.

"Kaneki! It's us!" I called out to him as he turned around completely and just looked at us. He then tilted his head a bit to the side.

"993... 986... 979..!" Kaneki then cracked his finger as he at the same moment leaped towards us with an incredible speed. Ayato immediately fired his kagune at Kaneki, but it didn't hit him nor slow him down. Once Ayato realized this he quickly made sure to keep Kaneki's attention on him as Ayato ran towards him, ready to fight.

"Find out a way to bring him back! I'll distract him as long as possible!" Ayato yelled as they fought each other. Kaneki was obviously the strongest one as he didn't even seem to try, meanwhile Ayato looked like he was really fighting for his life. Which he is... I looked down at my quinque as I unleashed it and looked at it for a moment. I then looked back up at Kaneki and Ayato. No, I can't! But... I gotta find out something! And fast..!

I was brought out of my thoughts when I suddenly saw Kaneki leaping right for me. I widened my eyes and quickly put my scythe in front of me in a protecting manner, so it couldn't hurt him.

"804... 797... 790... 783..." Kaneki's face wasn't that far from mine as he was still smirking and laughed a little to himself. I slowly and carefully reached my hand out to him, but he moved his face away and looked at me with a confused look.

"(Y/N) get away from him!" Ayato yelled as he runs towards us. Then one of Kaneki's centipede kagunes lounged for by from the side as I quickly moved the scythe to block it. I ended up cutting it as Kaneki laughed a bit at me and cracked his finger again. Ayato then leaped in between us and shield us with his kagune.

"You okay..!?" Ayato panted as he kept his eyes on Kaneki. I just nodded a single nod and returned the quinque, "where the hell did you even get that?!" Ayato yelled as he quickly looked it up and down.

"I... Found it on a dead body..." I said as I looked down at it as it were now back to case form. Ayato then leaped back towards Kaneki as their kagunes hit each other and it became a form of strength-test. He seemed to slow down when I reached out to him... I observed them carefully as I could see how exhausted Ayato was becoming. Maybe that's the way to bring him back..? Then something flew right past me into a wall. I looked at it and realized that it was Ayato.

"Ayato!?!" I screamed and ran towards him as he just looked at me with half-open eyes and blood coming out of his mouth.

"Watch... Your back..." He mumbled as he couldn't even get up. I quickly turned around to see Kaneki walking towards us with an even bigger smirk.

"314... 307... 300..." Kaneki whispered to himself as I quietly stood up, walking toward him. I put on my best smile as I looked Kaneki in the eye.
