Chapter 28 - Rage

(Y/N) POV:

Kaneki slammed the door closed behind us as Ayato continued to play with the kids outside. Kaneki then lets go of my hand as he quickly walked to the bathroom and washed his face. I silently walked to stand against the doorframe, observing him carefully. He just kept splashing water on his face for a while without paying me any thought. 

"Kaneki..." I said as he immediately stopped what he was doing and the water kept running. He didn't say anything as he just stood bent over the wash, looking down in it as water dripped from his face. He then slowly looked up at himself in the mirror as he clenched his fist, shaking a bit of anger. His ghoul eye was clearly showing and he had furrowed his brows slightly. 

"... When did he do it?" Kaneki then muttered, still looking at himself in the mirror. I carefully walked over to stand beside him as he now observed me in the mirror. 

"Just before you came home earlier... But it isn't important now, just forget it--" I began as Kaneki suddenly turned to me and held my shoulders.

"Forget it?! I can't just forget it (Y/N)! He tried to take you from me..!" Kaneki hissed as he tightened his grip on my shoulders, shaking me a bit back and forth. I just looked at him in shock at his actions as he bit after bit stopped shaking me as he then looked away from me. 

"Kaneki, breathe..." I said with a hesitant voice as he slowly began showing signs of crossing. He slowly looked back at me, regret filling his eyes as he took a few shaky breaths. He then let go of my shoulders and turned to turn off the water. 

"... I'm fine..." He quietly said as he turned back towards me with a weak smile and gentle eyes. I immediately opened my arms to him as I smiled back at him. He laughed a bit at me but walked up to me and hugged me tightly. "Just, never let anyone except me kiss you again... Okay?" He whispered and tightened the embrace a bit as I laid my head on his chest. 

"Okay." I said and looked up at him with a reassuring smile as he looked down at me, returning the smile. We then shared a brief kiss as Kaneki then began to dry himself and I walked into the kitchen.

"Kaneki!!? You want coffee!!??" I yelled and waited for him to respond.

"Y-Yeah... Ouch, no need to yell when I'm right beside you (Y/N)..!" Kaneki said as he was suddenly beside me, startling me for a moment. I then widened my eyes in surprise and took a step away from him.

"Kyaaa!?! H-How the hell did you get here so fast!? You were just in the bathroom!?!" I stuttered and glared at him for surprising me like that. He just stared at me for a moment before smirking a bit to himself. "W-What!?" I asked and continued to glare at him as he began chuckling to himself.

"Adorable..." He whispered and walked up behind me, embracing me from behind as he laid his head on my shoulder. A-Adorable?! Who, me!!? I probably looked like one big question mark right now as I just stared at him. "And yes, I would like a cup of coffee..." He said and carefully inhaled my scent. He had explained to me how I could know if a ghoul was having their eyes on me, so I could be more aware. That's how I know he was breathing in my scent right now, which is actually rather strange for him.

"Kaneki..? Why are you..?" I asked as I know he knows what I'm referring to. He removed his head from my shoulder as he put one hand up to his forehead, rubbing it a bit.

"S-Sorry..." He said with a troubled smile as he took a step back. I turned towards him and leaned against the counter behind me. "I guess I'm going out tonight..." He said and gave me his usual Kaneki smile, scratching the back of his head. 

"You're not in pain or anything, are you?" I asked and began making coffee for him and Ayato. 

"No, I'm fine." He said and stretched his arms a bit with a troubled smile. I know it's hard for him to take someone's life and that he has to do it 2-3 times a month to avoid hunger and pain... I began preparing some hot cacao for Yuki, Aku and myself as they were probably ready for something warm to drink too. The worst part is that he does it for us... Killing... Eats... He does it so we won't have to worry... Sure he had his habits a couple of years ago, but his gotten a hold of himself now...
