My Precious [Kaneki x Reader]

Chapter 12 - Mistakes

(Y/N) POV:

I woke up the next day at 2 PM as the sun was shining in on my face. I sat up on the couch and looked at the seat beside me where Kaneki had been. Guess he left for the mission... I then spotted a note on the table as I walked over to it and began reading it.  

'I left for the mission, it shouldn't take long so I'll be back sometime around 3 PM. I love you (Y/N), see you soon.  
- Kaneki'

I put the note back down and looked at the time again, 2:30 PM... He should be home soon then. I pushed the thoughts aside as I went to the kitchen to make myself some coffee and some breakfast. I set over the coffee and walked to the fridge, opening it to find it completely empty... (Y/N) his a ghoul god dammit, of course, there's no food in there... I mentally facepalmed myself as I just took the coffee and walked back to the couch. Guess I have to go grocery shopping sometime soon, I thought to myself as my stomach growled a bit at me. I just ignored it as I turned on the TV, thereby turning on the news. 

"Sometime late last night a prisoner transferring was destroyed by Aogiri tree, as they helped the S-rated ghoul Naki escape from our CCG. Rumors are that the Black Rabbit and The Eyepatch was spotted at the scene-" I widened my eyes at the screen and turned up the volume, "23 police officers in total were killed in action as Aogiri Tree once again destroyed everything around them-" Then pictures of the dead police officers where shown as the scenery then turned to a live-recording from the attack. 

I watched the screen intensely as it suddenly showed The Eyepatch destroying bridges and police cars. I put a hand in front of my mouth as I looked at the screen and listened to the reporters, "'I was watching everything unfold from my apartment back over there as I saw how those monsters brutally murdered those officers and put everything around them on fire! It was awful!'" I looked at the terrified woman holding her two children as she told the reporters what she'd seen. "We understand. The road will be out of use for the remaining of the day as the cleaning work is under process--" I switched to another channel as I just stared at the screen in shock, Kaneki must have a good reason for doing what he's doing... I thought as I stood up and walked to a window, looking down at the street below. 

I checked the time again to see that it was now past 4 PM, Kaneki should have been home a while ago... I clutched my stomach a bit as it ached a bit from hunger. I haven't eaten for almost 30 hours... I need to get my mind off of things and I think I saw a grocery store on the way here. I decided to head to the store to fill up the fridge, I need something to eat. 

Kaneki's POV:

This Naki-guy is truly pathetic and his really starting to get on mine and Ayato's nerves. I kept quiet though, letting him deal with his emotions for himself. Ayato, on the other hand, was being very Ayato-like and hissed at Naki to 'shut up already' and complained about why we had to watch over him. I actually agreed with him on this one, it's already past 4 PM and I promised to be home by 3 PM. I hope (Y/N) is still asleep and that she isn't worried about me. 

I had already talked with Eto. She wasn't really that pleased with my disappearance and she said that they would be 'keeping me nearby' for a while. I'm not in a position to deny her right now and I have (Y/N) to protect, so I can't attract unnecessary attention. She said that she expected me to do better on my next mission, whatever that mission might be. 

Two Aogiri members came into the room where Ayato, Naki and I were in. As they motioned for Naki to follow them, it was probably his turn to talk with Eto.

"Great!" Ayato stretched his arms as he began walking away, "that means we're free from him." with that Ayato left the room. I checked my phone to see what time it was, 6 PM, shit... I quickly changed out of my uniform and left the building as I quickly began to make my way home.
