(Y/N)'s POV:
Kaneki and I had been chatting with Irimi, Touka, and Hinami for quite a while now and it was getting pretty late. It was dark outside and Yuki and Aku were admiring the stars with Mr. Yoshimura from the window.
"See Mr.! It's the big dipper!" Aku exclaimed and pointed up at the stars, his eyes sparkling just as much as the stars themselves. Aku really has a passion for stars and horoscopes and it really shows in these darker months. Normally we don't let them stay up to this late hour, but today's an exception.
"Where?" Mr. Yoshimura asked and looked up at the sky as Aku jumped in front of him and pointed. Following the way Aku pointed, Mr. Yoshimura soon found it and smiled kindly at Aku with a small nod.
"Daddy..?" Yuki suddenly asked as she had somehow made her way to me and Kaneki without me noticing her. Kaneki looked down at her tired face as she yawned and rubbed her eye.
"Yes sweetie?" Kaneki said and put his hand on top of her head.
"I'm tired..." She mumbled and leaned against him, trying to make him carry her. Kaneki, however, gritted his teeth slightly and closed one eye at her weight on his wound.
"Yuki, sweetie, come here." I quickly said as she looked at me with tired eyes and slowly walked over to me. Kaneki smiled thankfully at me as I stood up and picked Yuki up on my back, giving her a piggyback ride. "Aku, bedtime." I said as Aku turned his head and pouted, probably not wanting to leave the stars by themselves. I sent him a small, light glare as he tensed and quickly bid everyone goodnight and ran over and took my hand.
"Goodnight everyone!" Yuki said and waved at them as everyone smiled and waved back, saying goodnight as well. I took them upstairs to their room as they changed into their pajamas, crawling into bed.
"Mommy please read a story!" Aku and Yuki pleaded in unison as I was just about to turn off the lights. I looked at them and smiled.
"Fine, but just a short one and then straight to bed." I said and walked over to the shelf and looked over all the small kid stories. I ended up picking 'First trick or treat' because Halloween was coming up soon and I knew they would love a little Halloween story to get them into the mood.
"Okay, tonight it's going to be..." I paused midsentence to create a dramatical effect as I then showed them the book. "Children's first trick or treat!" I said and they both smiled excitedly and I sat down on Yuki's bed and opened the book on the first page.
"As the days are growing long, crows emerge to sing dusk songs. Pumpkins redden, berries bloom, webs are strung throughout the room." I could see Aku nervously looking for spiderwebs around their room, he's really scared of spiders. I smiled to myself and continued on the story. "Candles are placed in waiting windows and lanterns swing wherever wind blows. Candy bowls are laid around. We listen for the friendly sound of children ringing on the door," I smirked and just as I continued the story I poked Yuki in her side as she jumped and squealed, "TRICK OR TREAT~!" I said in a loud, enthusiastic voice as we all laughed.
"Hey mommy! No fair!" Yuki exclaimed and cried tears of laughter.
"They rustle in their clothes. They're lizards!" I said and made my fingers look like they were crawling over the covers, "Wizards! Vampires! Witches! Skeletons..." Every time I said a monster of some sort I would mimic them and scare Yuki and Aku a bit. "The child sees a gentle glow of the torches as they go. We watch them walking down the path... And slowly fade into the dark... High above, moon overhead... It's time for you to go to bed..." I ended the story and closed the book.
"Read it again! Read it again!" Yuki pleaded as I stood up from her bed and walked back to the shelf again. I placed the book back and turned to look at Yuki.
