Chapter 15 - Nightmare

~ Time Skip - 4 Days ~ 

(Y/N) POV:

Kaneki and Ayato had apparently made a deal with each other that they would take turns to 'make sure of my safety'. One of them would always be with me, mostly Kaneki though, which I'm happy with. As for now, I'm sitting on the couch leaning up against Kaneki's chest, watching TV. He seems to be asleep and he got his arm around my waist, a small smile on his lips. I wonder what his dreaming about... His had a lot of nightmares lately... I looked at him a little longer before shifting my attention back to the TV. There was something on The News about the CCG and their investigations.

'Ghouls are dangerous monsters who will eat and destroy everything and everyone they meet. They're out of control and that's why we need Investigators to stop them. Sadly, we are in need of more Investigators who are willing to help us fight and get information on the ghouls,' My eyes widen as I stared at the screen, 'We especially need someone to help gather information on them, so we can stop them and end their existence.' ... Or help them survive you. My thoughts began to trail off, but I then heard Kaneki groan a bit beside me. It sounded like he was a bit in pain as he also tightened his grip on me a bit. I looked back at him to see him narrowing his brows and a bit of sweat forming on his forehead. Oh no...

Kaneki's POV: 

It was dark in the apartment and (Y/N) was sleeping soundly in the bedroom. I was standing in the kitchen, leaning against the counter as I sipped to my coffee. She means everything to you... I looked at her once again, a small smile forming on my lips. You'll do anything for her, won't you? 

"I will..." I said in a low voice as I silently walked to the bed and looked down at her sleeping face. She looked so peaceful and beautiful as the moonlight lighted up her face a bit as it came through the curtains. 

"That's good for you, but what about him?" I looked up as I realized someone was actually talking to me. My eyes widen as I saw Rize standing right beside me, looking into the living room. I quickly rose to my feet as I put my right arm in front of (Y/N) in a protecting manner. 

"Why are you here? What do you want?!" I asked as I felt myself naturally raising my guard and just glare at her. Rize then walked into the living room, gesturing for me to follow. I nervously looked back at (Y/N), but she was as peaceful asleep as she was before. I then followed Rize to the living room, to see Ayato sitting on my couch, looking out of the window. 

"Beautiful story, really, a boy and girl have been friends since they were small, then many years after they reunite in a heartwarming scene. Their bond almost as close as it were before..." Rize said as she smiled at Ayato, who just kept gazing out of the window, seeming deep in thought. I just glared at Rize as she gazed back at me with a smirk. 

"They're just friends." I stated as I loosened myself up a bit. Ayato now turned his head to the front door as he stood up and smiled. I raised my eyebrow a bit at him as I followed his gaze to the door and saw (Y/N) come in with a cheerful smile. 

"Ayato! I'm home!" She smiled as she ran right past me to Ayato and hugged him tightly, which he immediately returned and kissed her on the forehead. My heart seemed to stop as I just stared at them. Ayato then looked at me as he still held (Y/N) as he slowly moved her chin upwards, making sure I saw everything.
