Chapter 37 - Trust

(Y/N)'s POV:

Kaneki and I had said our goodbyes to Chiyoko and wished each other good luck before Kaneki had left for the mission. I was still at Chiyoko's apartment, waiting for Three Blades to show up. She should be here any minute... I thought nervously, she's a ghoul from Aogiri and every ghoul I've ever met from Aogiri except Kaneki and Ayato always tries to kill me. As if on clue three fast knocks were heard on the front door as Chiyoko and I turned our heads towards the sound.

"... That's my cue... Well, thanks again for everything Chiyoko! Come to visit us once in a while, okay?" I said and hugged Chiyoko one last time. She returned the hug and nodded in silence. I then put on my shoes and got my bag and jacket as I went to open the door.

On the other side stood a short person with a big metal-like mask and an orange cloak around her. She had three big metal rings around her wrists and arms, which looked quite heavy, but she wore them like they were nothing, signing obvious physical strength.

"(Y/N) (L/N)?" She asked and looked into the apartment behind me, checking for other people as she then looked me up and down. "Is that you?".

"Yes," I said and nodded, "You're Three Blades I take it?" I said and tried to sound as brave and confident as possible. She just nodded in silence as I closed the door to Chiyoko's apartment, leaving my safety.

"You need to do precisely as I say when I say it, or else you won't make it out of the 1st ward alive. I promised Black Rabbit that I would help you to escape and protect, but not that I would risk my life for you. Remember that." Three Blades said as she looked out onto the street to spot for enemies, but I wasn't able to see what she saw.

"We'll sneak out under all the confusion, nearly no one will notice us, and those who do will quickly forget." She said as she watched the crowd carefully. All the confusion? What conf-- My thoughts were brutally interrupted as the sound of a big explosion sounded not so far from here.

"Now's our chance." She said and immediately rushed out onto the streets as I quickly followed close behind her. Everybody was panicking because of the loud explosion and was running in all directions. It's like... An apocalypse without zombies...

We quickly turned off a couple of sideways, getting further and further away from all the fuss as Three Blades suddenly stopped as her kagune came as she used it to force open a manhole cover. Her kagune reminded me a lot of Kaneki's as hers was also tentacles, hers was just a bit more compact than Kaneki's and she only had three where Kaneki have four.

"This way." She said as she quickly jumped down into to sewer, waiting for me to follow. I frowned at the thought of all the dirt and infected rats running around down there, but she's my only option to escape, so I have to follow.

I carefully made my way down into the sewer as well where she was waiting for me. She then used her kagune to reach up and cover the entrance as darkness quickly surrounded us. My feet were immediately soaked in dirty water as I could feel that the water almost reached up to my knees.

"We'll be able to relax more here than we would up there, we'd be spotted and captured in less than 10 minutes if we had continued as we did." Three Blades said as my eyes slowly began to adjust themselves to the darkness and I was able to see her silhouette.

"I see..." I muttered, pretending to understand everything she said and to keep being confident. Three Blades just turned towards me as I felt her gaze land upon me.

"Would you stop trying to act tough? Be yourself, you don't necessarily need to be scared of me. I'm here to help, remember?" She sighed and began walking through the water as I just followed.
