Chapter 13 - Partners

Ayato's POV:

I was observing Eyepatch like Eto had ordered me to, honestly, why am I the one who has to do this shit? He had been acting a little strange, but it's him we're talking about so there isn't really any surprise there. I watched him as he had stopped at a bus stop and taken his phone out, texting someone. There was a delicious smell in the air, though it was really faint. Eyepatch then ran off in the direction of some big buildings not so far from here. I quickly ran after him on the rooftops, what's gotten into the bastard all of sudden!? 

I watched as he stopped in front of a door to a random apartment, looking down at his phone and then knocking on the door. Why all the fucking running if you're not going to destroy anything!? I made a low 'tch' sound, careful not to give my presence away to him. The door then opened as Eyepatch just walked in like he owned the place. 

A minute later he came out, forcing some girl with him as she was obviously in pain. Who the fuck is that little bitch? I naturally began following them again. She isn't a ghoul that's clear, but then what does Eyepatch want with her? He then pulled her into a nearby alley, but it was too dark in there for me to see them. This is getting interesting...

I leaped down on the ground not so far from there as I began walking towards the alley. Just then Eyepatch came walking out, looking straight at me. I stopped in my tracks and glared at him, he had that scent on him again. The same scent he had on our mission, and the same scent that was hanging on the street, as well as in that alley behind him. It belongs to her, doesn't it? It seems familiar though. 

"Ayato?" Eyepatch said as we just glared at each other, he seems awfully much on guard despite not being on a mission, "what are you doing here? Do we have another mission..?" He asked, but clearly, he knew why I was here. 

"You know why I'm here, does 'keeping you nearby' sound familiar? Well, guess who got the job of babysitting you." I watched as he got a little pale but still glaring at me though, "why so tense? We're partners after all..." I said as I began walking towards the alley, now, where is she? 

"I don't need you babysitting me. Leave." He said in a rather cold voice as he put his hand out in front of me, stopping me from entering the alley. We didn't look at each other, he just kept glaring out on the street as I looked into the alley. 

"Move out of my way." I said as I pushed past him and walked into the alley, the scent was very strong here and I could now understand why those two ghouls had shown it such an interest. It was amazing, I walked deeper into the alley as I looked for the sauce of it. "It smells delicious in here Eyepatch, you should join me." I teased as I looked in the direction of some boxes at the end of the alley and began walking towards them. 

"... I told you before, I've already eaten." He said as he began to walk into the alley as well. I looked back at him over my shoulder as I made a click with my tongue. I stopped right in front of the boxes, they were covered with dusty sheets and yet it smelled delicious. 

"Like hell you have." I spat as I removed the sheets from the boxes to reveal the (h/c) girl hiding under them. "Oh? And what do we have here?" I looked down at her as she slowly turned her head and looked up at me. Her (e/c) eyes seemed to tear up a bit as she slowly stood up and gave me a questioning look.

"A-Ayato..?" She mumbled as she took a small step towards me. I widened my eyes and stared at her in shock.

"(Y/N)?" I just looked at her as everything else seemed to stop around us. She then quickly pushed past me as I followed her with my eyes. She spread out her arms out as she had her back turned towards me in a protecting manner.
