Twenty Four

"What are you?" I demanded with a snarl. 

I glanced down to the injured man on the ground and recogznised him from the day Adelaide had chosen new furniture for me: Liam. His eyes had closed and he was bleeding from his forearm. The man I had pulled off of Liam smiled wickedly and his eyes gleamed a reddish color.

"You know what I am," he growled back. 

I bent down to Liam and inspected his forearm. The wound had been inflicted sloppily judging by the oddly torn skin. It must have been caused by a sharp yet small weapon: teeth. I eyed the standing man again and noticed he was a brunette. 

"Vampire," I spat out.

It was a vampire who had been stalking Adelaide. Of course. 

"I assume he is going to turn," I stated with abhorrence.

The disgusting creature nodded as he sucked off Liam's blood from his skinny fingers. 

"He will because you did not allow me to finish."

I glared at him and he shrugged, "It is a part of nature. I am a predator and humans are my prey. I will not starve just for a moody Perished." 

My eyes widened and he smirked, "Did you really believe that I would not know who you are? I have done my research whilst you failed to do the same about me."

I did not answer and he continued. 

"I admit, I was surprised about a certain human. The one you are in love with. How is that if I may ask? Why is she still alive? It is obvious that you have claimed her as your love. It is also obvious that you are still awaiting her death. If you ever change your mind and you wish to rid of her, I can do the honors of receiving her. She is rather delicious, appearance-wise of course. I have not had the pleasure of actually tasting her...yet."

I did not think it through as I tackled him to the ground. I shoved his skull into the sidewalk, seeming to forget his strength. My rage overpowered my knowledge. He easily pushed me off into a grassy area beside the now barely-breathing Liam.

"I am impressed with your courage. I suppose your life does not particularly matter to you considering you are not actually alive. I know her life matters to you though. Try anything like that again and I will make her fall for me instead of you. I know your pathetic, non-beating heart would hate that even more."

Addie's P.O.V.

I blinked once and realized that I had fallen asleep on Zayn's couch. 

I took my phone off the charger and read the time. It had only been twenty minutes since Zayn had left. I guess my nap was short-lived. I stood up and stretched before turning on the TV. I sighed once I realized that I'd fallen asleep with makeup on.

Zayn had seen me without makeup before, so it didn't matter if he came back and my face was naked. I made my way down the hallway and into the guest bathroom. I closed the door behind me in case he came back. I didn't want him to see me in the process of making myself undesirable again.

I bent down and grabbed the facial wash I had accidentally left here last time and began washing away my eyeliner and mascara. When my face felt clean and naked enough, I rinsed the soap off and dried my face on a hand towel. I rubbed my eyes and yawned before staring at myself in the mirror.

The second I looked up, the mirror revealed that there was a woman standing behind me. I screamed immediately and turned around to come face to face with nothing.

Zayn's P.O.V.

The sound of Adelaide's scream was noticeable as the vampire had quieted. 

I did not care about the monster who was a foot away from me as I sprinted to my front door. I fumbled with the keys for a second but quickly recovered and pushed the door open. I did not bother to close it as I rushed to her side in front of the telly.

"What happened?" I demanded, unintentionally impatient.

She opened her mouth to respond, but not a single sound was released as she gaped at the front door.

 My head turned to meet the bloody monster's gaze fixed on Adelaide.
