Addie's P.O.V.

"Hey, Lia?"

I tapped my foot as my favorite band, 5 Seconds of Summer, played through the speakers on my stereo in my room thanks to the iPod I'd gotten last year from Beth.

"Yeah? What's up?" I sighed as I recited in my head what I was supposed to ask her.

I was going to sound like a total whack job.

"Hello?" She wondered at the other side of the phone.

"Oh, yeah. Sorry. So um this is a random question."

"Okay, shoot." I hesitated before continuing.

"Has anything weird happened recently?" I chewed on the cap of my pen as I stared at the textbook in front of me.

I could really do anything right now except study. I just couldn't stay focused.

"Um, no? Why?"

I knew I'd receive this answer.

"Well it kind of leads to the next question," I replied anxiously.

"Something wrong?"

"No, um..." This question wasn't that weird, but it would be a bit weird for someone like her who thought the idea of ghosts and vampires and the like was stupid.

"Do you believe in the supernatural?"

From the other end of the phone, Cecilia made a sort of choking sound and I panicked.

"Lia?! Are you okay?"

What could be happening? Did someone take her again?! Out of nowhere, she began speaking in a language foreign to me. It didn't sound like anything I could've learned in the past, Spanish or French.

"Uh, Lia..."

Her voice became monotonous and it honestly frightened me. I hung up quickly and shivered. That was creepy. I knew Zayn was ridiculous for not telling me where he was, and I should've stayed angry with him to teach him a lesson...hopefully, but I had to tell him about this.

I actually trusted him enough to tell him things.

We were total opposites. I glanced at the textbook again and closed it. I'd study later, or at least I hoped so. I couldn't fail any of my classes this semester. The call connected and I waited for him to talk first.

"Hello?"

"I called her and something really freaky happened."

My heartbeat increased and I knew Zayn could sense that I was being bothered by something.

"Okay, it's all right. Breathe in and out," he instructed.

I did as he told me and then he spoke again, "Tell me what happened."

I carefully breathed in and out for a second time, "I called Cecilia and asked if she believed in the supernatural, and then she made a weird sound. I asked her if she was okay, and she started rambling in another language, one that I didn't recognize."

He didn't even have to think for longer than a second before he knew what was going on with her.

"I believe that something must be controlling or possessing her mind. If she truly is a sorceress like her ancestor, Gemma, then whoever is controlling her must wish to hide her powers. It would make sense. They are trying to protect her from curious bystanders."

I nodded although he could not see it, "I guess so. I still don't think she's a sorceress. I mean, I've known her ever since I can remember and there were never any signs of powers or magic."

"Usually, they show signs of having powers when they have reached adolescent ages. It is not your fault for not detecting the powers."

"If you say so," I shrugged mentally.

"Listen," he began.

"I know you are upset as a result of how I have acted. I will confess; I was lying to you, but it was a matter personal to me and I do not wish to share it at this time. I hope you will be able to forgive me. I-I am...very apologetic." He stuttered towards the end and I sighed.

"I'll consider it," I was half serious and half joking, if that's even possible.

"Thank you," he breathed a sigh of relief and I smiled a bit.

I knew he was still hiding his emotions and he was still afraid, but every day he showed more of who he really was. He was allowing himself to become human again, even if it was a slow process. I'd have to remember this and be more lenient on him.

It was just in my nature to find it difficult to trust people. I'd always demanded the truth.

"I have to study," I told him sadly and I opened the textbook again.

"Oh, I understand. Thank you for calling me, Adelaide. Will I see you soon?"

"Possibly," I answered, laughing in my head.

I made myself sound so serious, when I wasn't even sure if I was angry with him anymore. That was another thing about me; it was in my nature to forgive too easily, even when I wanted to remain unforgiving.

"I shall leave you to your studying. Good night," he wished me and I bid him a good night before hanging up.
