As the summer temperatures finally catch up to us it becomes apparent that it was about time to get the pool up in the backyard. That way we have a place to cool off without leaving the comfort of our own home. Not that we can't leave, but going to a public pool would be kind of hard with Clara being pregnant and me being well known around these parts, plus it would be really nice to have this for whenever we wanted.
So we organize a two day project to get a in ground pool into the backyard. One day was set aside to dig the hole and the second day was to fill in the pool with concrete. It was a part of the only renovation plans we had for this place. I also wanted to put a garden in the back yard along with a dog house for Maddie too. But the pool was first because we had to go through so much to get it and I couldn't do it myself.
But thankfully our neighbors were nice and let us invade their backyard for a few hours here and there over the process. Maddie hated the noice but she would always be next to Clara or I so we can comfort her. I honestly felt bad because she was a sweet dog and we loved her so much. And after two long days of destruction and construction the pool was in and ready to use, so that's what we were going to do.
"I don't think there's such a thing as a flattering maternity swim suit" Clara claims as she pulls on a swim suit.
She wore a pretty matte navy blue one piece with a flowing top. It made her tan skin look like it sparkled and her baby bump definate.
"I don't think there is anything you could wear that would look bad" I counter. And I wasn't just saying that either, I really meant it.
"You have to say that, you're my fiancé" she giggles.
"No. I have to tell you that I love you and treat you right because I'm your fiancé. I tell you you're beautiful because you are" I defend.
"Now you're just saying that" she claims and I laugh. I grab her hips and pull her as close as her baby bump would let me. I push her hair back before running my fingers through it.
"Why don't you believe me when I say that you're beautiful" I ask. "I never lie to you."
"I don't want to be pretty. Eddie told me I was pretty every day so I just kind of shrug it off now. It's nothing you can do, it's just the way I am" she shrugs.
"Do you think you're pretty" I ask her.
"I don't like to think about it" she admits.
"I don't even think I've seen you look in the mirror for more than a few seconds at a time" I recall.
"I just don't like to look at myself" she claims.
"But why" I question.
"I just don't. I don't like what I see" she claims.
"Well I see a strong girl who has seen the worlds ugly truth but is still so beautiful despite of all of that. Your eyes are so stunning, I've never seen anything like them. And although they've see the most terrible things. Although they've dropped so many tears, they still shine so bright. And I see a smile that's there even though life has given you so many reasons to frown. You still find any excuse to share a laugh with people even though I know you're still hurting. Don't think I don't think that you aren't. Your pretty smile can't always fool me. But I have no problem reminding you that you and I are going to have a incredible life together and I won't let anything bad happen to you. That smile with become a normal thing and you will never have to force it again.
I am attracted to everything about you, but I think what you went through makes you more beautiful" I insist and she smiles.
"I don't deserve you" she claims.
"You deserve the world" I insist. "And I can't give you the world. But together we can make a world we both want to live in. One filled with love and faith and family. One where you can look in the mirror and smile because your reflection is just as beautiful as your are" I say.
"That's all I ever wanted" she claims.
"That's all I can give you" I reply.
She softly grabs my face before pulling me into a deep kiss. I easily kiss her back as for the millionth time since we've been together.
We head out to the pool and jump in. Maddie sits on the edge as she contemplated if she wanted to jump in with us or just watch. The backyard was all finished and now all that was left was for us to enjoy it.
"Can you quit baseball so we can spend every day here in the pool" she asks.
"Do you not like me playing baseball" I ask.
"No! I do! I love watching you play, I love knowing that you feel like you belong out here. I've met so many great people and I love the Cubs fans. But I love you more than all of that" she claims and I smile.
"I know you do" I smile. I swim over to her and I look around.
"We made a pretty good life out here, huh" I ask.
"It looks good, it feels good" she lists off.
"It feel great" I tease as she smiles up at me.
"Thank you" she says and I cock my head to the side.
"For what" I question.
"Everything" she smiles.
