Anthony
"Has it been bad" I ask Jon as I sit in his kitchen. Farrah sets a plate of food in front of me but it only made me miss Clara that much more. I couldn't tell you the last time I had a actual breakfast. Well, I guess I can, it was the morning she left.
"I'm not going to lie, yeah. She can't baby sit anymore because he doesn't need to convince us that everything is okay over there so it's not like we see or hear from her all that much. Not personally at least, we definitely hear her" he cringes.
"Do you call the cops" I ask and Jon spits out a dry laugh. "What's so funny" I defend.
"He is the cops... Anthony. If we call the line goes to him" he says and I stop.
"That's why they never showed up when you called before" I whisper.
"That's why no one knows what happens. He can cover everything, if what all he tells people is how happy they are together than that's all they can believe" he sighs.
"What's stopping me from waking over there and punching this guy in the face" I ask.
"The law" Farrah says.
"The fact that you're a decent human being" Jon adds on.
"The chances he would hurt Claire" Farrah continues.
"Okay" I yell. "Okay... I get it. It's a bad idea. But I can't just sit here and do nothing" I insist.
"Maybe nothing is the best thing you can do. You going over there is dangerous for you and for her. If he finds out that you've been over there, there's nothing stopping him from killing her. She disappeared for months and no one found her. If she was to die no one would notice either" Jon says.
"You would notice, I would notice" I scoff.
"And who would we tell" he asks. "The police?"
"I don't... I don't know. But I don't like knowing what she's going through, and not knowing what she's going through. It kills me, having all these questions and knowing that the answer is something bad is so scary" I say.
"You guys can't just run away" Jon insists.
"If that was Farrah in Clara's position what do you do" I ask and he stops. He turns to me and starts to shake his head.
"It doesn't matter, that's different" he says softly.
"It isn't" I assure him. "You love her more than anything. You would go to the end of the time just to assure yourself she was going to be okay. You would fight anyone at any moment just to make sure she's happy. You would give up everything, baseball, all your money, everything to be with her.
It's not different Jon. Because I love Clara the same way you love Farrah. So tell me.. what would you do to assure yourself that she would be okay" I ask.
He stares at me as I wait for my answer. Farrah stands in the kitchen as she waits for his answer too.
"I would do anything for her" he admits and I nod.
"That's what I thought" I say.
There's a huge crash from across the street and we all look at Clara's house. There's screaming and yelling and just as fast as they started they stopped. Silence falls over he neighborhood as we wait for something to happen. Something sounds like it breaks and I stand up out of my seat.
