Chapter 14: I Love You

Caroline Forbes

"How about this one?" I show Bonnie a floor-length red dress. "It's so your color."

"I'll try it on okay?" When I nod my head she takes the dress to one of the changing rooms and my phone starts buzzing.

"Damon ask you yet?"

"No, but I have a feeling he's going to soon. We're going on a date tonight."

"I never took Damon for the date type.'

"People surprise you. I heard from a certain blonde original that Klaus asked you to prom."

"Right after he asked me to be his girlfriend."

"Awe Care that's so sweet."

"Yeah, I'm with Bonnie right now. We're prom dress shopping."

"Who asked Bonnie?"

"You'll never believe me."

"Shoot."

"Kol Mikaelson." Silence on the other end of the line. "Told you."

"Guess people really do surprise you." Bonnie walks out of the dressing room in the dress.

"I think this is the one." Bonnie twirls and Elena asks to see so I switch to FaceTime.

"Yep. It's the one."

"I've decided on a navy blue floor-length dress." I have Bonnie hold up my dress and Elena gasps.

"Care it's beautiful." Bonnie hands me my dress and heads back to her dressing room.

"I know. Anyways we need to go pay. Love you, Lena!"

"Love you guys." I end the call as Bonnie comes out in her normal clothes, her dress draped over her arm.

Elena Gilbert

"My lady." Damon pulls out my chair after we arrive at the restaurant.

"You have great taste." He smiles at my words and has the waiter bring out some red wine. "So? Is there some special occasion because as far as I know you never take me on dates?"

"I know I know. I need to start taking you on dates more but this one is a special occasion." He looks me straight in the eye. "Elena Gilbert, will you do me the honor of taking you to prom?"

"YES!" He jumps in surprise when I yell my answer. "Sorry I was kinda-sorta waiting for you to ask me."

"I'm usually not like this."

"Like what?" I take a sip of my wine as pain flashes over his eyes.

"So open and into dating."

"Is this because I look like Katherine because she's such a bitch and-"

"You're nothing like her." He puts his hand over mine as I give him a look. "I swear."

"Good." I give him a mischievous smile and he chuckles.

Caroline Forbes

"I wish we could stay like this forever." I sigh into Klaus' shoulder as his arm that's draped over my back moves and he starts stroking my hair.

"But there are things to do love." He kisses the top of my head before proceeding to get up so I lean against the headboard.

"Where are you going?" He grabs a shirt from my closet and slips it over his head.

"Problem in New Orleans. Promise I'll be back before prom." He pecks me on the lips and proceeds to walk away but I pull him back and he lands on top of me as I press my lips to his. "Mmm. I really need to go love."

"I know I know but I'll miss you." I cross my arms over my chest as he sets both hands on either side of me on the bed.

"I promise to call you every day. I promise to bring you home gifts. I promise to show how much I love you when I get back." He says each sentence in between kisses and I giggle when he playfully bites my neck.

"Klaus! Ahh!" I start laughing as he tickles me.

"Do you give up?" he whispers in my ear, not stopping the torture. I nod in response as his fingers leave my stomach and settle on my cheeks. My hands tangle in his hair as his lips find mine. The door opens and we separate.

"Am I interrupting something?" Elena is standing in the doorway, a hand on her hip. I'm usually not one to blush but at that very moment I did and Elena grasps my elbow and tugs me into the hallway. "There has never been a day in my life that I have ever seen Caroline Forbes blush."

"He just makes me feel all warm and good inside." I brush a lock of hair out of my face and tuck it behind my ear. "I can't live without him. I love him, Elena." I have never been so sure of something in my whole life.

"I know. I can see it in your eyes. When you're sad and he walks into the room you're instantly happy." She puts a reassuring hand on my arm. "I want you to be happy Care." She pulls me into a hug as Damon walks up the stairs behind her and whispers into my ear. "Now Damon's interrupting something."

"I can hear you." I giggle as Damon throws Elena over his shoulder.

"Well, I guess we're done talking." She waves as she disappears behind Damons' closing door. Klaus walks out of my room.

-Flashback to a few days ago-

"Elena I can't be in my house right now. Do you think it will be all right with Damon if I stay at the boarding house?" Elena takes out her phone and sends a text to Damon.

"He says it's all right. He understands why." Elena hugs me when I start to cry.

"Is he sure? I don't want to be a burden."

"Caroline you will never be a burden. Not to us. Not to me."

-Present time-

"Do you really have to leave?" I pout as Klaus grabs his leather jacket off the back of the couch before sliding it on.

"Yes, love. I need to find out what that oliang creature is." He looks at me sincerely. "I don't want it to kill you again because if you die, you're gone for good. No other side anymore."

"I know." He pulls me in for a long, slow kiss. When he pulls away, he rests his forehead against mine.

"I love you." He pulls a box out of his pocket, it looks hand carved.

"Are you-" He puts a finger to my lips and shakes his head. When he opens the box, inside is a necklace. A heart made of gold, intricate designs in silver with the heart lined in diamonds. "Klaus this is beautiful."

"It was my mothers'." I look up at his face as he takes the necklace out and sets the box aside. "I would like very much if you would wear it. The day she gave me this, she said that if I ever found my true love that I was to give it to them."

"I'm- I'm your true love?" He looks up, his eyes full of love.

"The second you walked into the room last year, you blew my breath away. All I saw was your one light in my world full of darkness." I look at the necklace and nod. As I turn around I lift my hair so he can put it on me.

"I love you too." When he hears me say those words, his fingers go still on my shoulders. I turn around slowly and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. "Klaus?" His only response is when he lifts his head and presses his lips to mine in a slow and sensual kiss. I bring my hands up to cup his face as his find my waist.

"I promise I will come back." He leans his forehead against mine when we separate.

"I know." I press my lips to his one last time before pushing away from him. "I love you, Klaus."

"I love you to Caroline." He walks out, closing the door behind him.
