Dani burst into the office to see Lydia lying curled up on the sofa, her arms covering her pale face. Hearing someone enter the room Lydia peeked one eye out from under her arm, "Please don't tell me how bad it is out there I don't think I can take it just yet".
Dani moved towards the couch, "Oh no, Lydia" she began but was soon interrupted by her friend, "My life's over so I would like to lie here a while longer before I have to get up and face the world, aware that everyone knows my dirty little secret".

Dani laughed, "You're such a drama queen", Lydia lifted her arms from her face to look at her friend, "Excuse me! My life has just fallen to pieces so that means I'm allowed to be a drama queen, Yes it's all my own fault since I'm a big old slut who can't resist the hot Portuguese footballer but still, I should be allowed to wallow in self pity if I choose".

Laughing loudly, Dani playfully batted her friend's gesturing hands away, "If you would shut up long enough to listen you would find out that your life isn't over and I just saved your butt". Lydia looked at her confused, "What do you mean, what happened?".
"They were looking to get a picture of Ronaldo's new lady friend, but it wasn't you they were looking for" said Dani, "Cristiano has a girlfriend!" exclaimed Lydia, "So he was seeing someone when he and I slept together, he really is the dirty dog the media claims he is. I know I'm one to talk since technically I'm almost a married woman but still.." she carried on until Dani shouted, interrupting her rambling, "Lydia! Will you please be quiet and let me talk for a minute".
"Ok, ok, calm down, go on, I'm listening" replied Lydia.

"Thank you" nodded Dani as she continued, "The reason they didn't want a picture of you is because they think I'M Ronaldo's new lady friend" she said pointing to herself, "So I gave them what they wanted and now they're gone, so Lydia your life is not over".
Almost instantly Lydia jumped to her feet and grabbed her friend, hugging her tightly, "Oh Dani, thank you thank you thank you, you truly are the best friend a girl could ask for. You've just saved my skin" she said as she planted a huge kiss on Dani's cheek before letting her go to grab her jacket and handbag.
"You're right I just saved your skin and you can thank me later with an ice cold bottle of wine and maybe a day trip to the spa" replied Dani as she watched her friend scrambling to pick up all of the holiday parcels, "Where are you going?" she asked.
Lydia moved towards the door struggling with the packages, "I'm going home to pack for my lovely luxurious holiday in the sun that I am so looking forward to, you can manage here for the rest of the day and maybe, just maybe I'll meet you tonight for that bottle of wine, on me of course" she said unable to wipe the smile from her face knowing that for now her secret was safe.

                                                                *****************************

A few hours later, sat on the floor of her dressing room, Lydia was surrounded by the brand new pink, sparkly suitcases she'd just had delivered, excited to pack for the upcoming holiday she couldn't decide on what clothes to take, if only she could take them all she laughed to herself.
She was looking forward to days of endless warm sunshine and cool nights by the beach bar sipping on exotic cocktails, it was the holiday she'd always dreamed of.

Startled from her daydreaming, Lydia jumped when she heard a loud banging coming from the bedroom. Someone was in the house with her but who could it be?, Gabriella was staying with a friend for the night, and she was sure she'd locked the front door behind her when she had come home from the boutique, as for Sam, he had text her earlier that day to say he was working late.

Carefully, she got to her feet making as little noise as possible, searching around in the piles of clothes for her phone to call for help, soon realising she'd left it on the bedside table. "Fuck, I'll die for lack of a mobile phone" she whispered to herself while desperately trying to think of a way to get out of the house safely if she needed to.
Her only options were either out of the dressing room window which was at least a 20-30 foot drop, it wasn't a very appealing idea since she had a deathly fear of heights, or the alternative which was going through the adjoining master bedroom  where the culprit was, most probably rummaging through her drawers looking for valuables.
