Chapter 51

Maddy's POV:

A knock came from my door and I opened it to Will who swooped inside, pressing me back against the wall as we locked lips.

"What was that for?" I smiled as he stepped back.

"Well I know you've been stressed lately with money and the garage and Lilli so I'm making tonight all about you." Will said. "I'm going to run you a bath, put Lilli to bed and order take out, all you have to do is relax." He explained.

"Will you don't have to do all this, I'm fine, really." I said. "I'm just tired."

"Then at least let me run you a nice bubble bath and you can have an early night?"

"I love you." I smiled, pecking his lips before shutting the door and walking into the living room.

Guilt stabbed my brain like knives, I couldn't go on and even thought it was over with Ross I still felt like I had to confess.

"Fuck." I muttered, getting up and walking up the stairs.

I opened my bedroom door to see him rocking Lilli to sleep in a single arm.

"Bath is ready in ten and she's ready, well now." He smiled, outstretching an arm for me.

I cuddled into his chest, the three of us stood close together made me feel warm, like I had a perfect family- but nothing is ever perfect, our relationship had a deep dark secret that I had to give up.

I couldn't do it, again, I'd failed. I got so close tonight, I even sat him down on the couch and was about to tell him but his mum called him saying it was an emergency so he had to leave.

I looked down at Lilli peacefully sleeping in her cot. "I am so sorry." I whispered to her. I had the perfect family for her, Will and I loved each other and he loved her but I ruined it.

Suddenly, a crash came from downstairs and I looked up, my heart began pumping faster and louder than ever. I feared that who ever it was would hear me just from my heartbeat.

My mouth became dry and raspy and my breathing deepened as I tried to make it silent. I heard another noise although I couldn't make out what it was.

I snatched my phone off the bed, flinching with every sound that came from downstairs. "You okay?" Will asked from the other end of the phone.

"Someone's in my house." I whispered.

"Wha- are you sure?"

Pounding of feet running up the stairs filled my ears and I quickly dropped my phone on to the bed, digging through my jacket for the pocket knife my dad always made me carry.

Grabbing on to it, I turned to see a man in the doorway, as he stepped into the light I recognised his features: Jace.

"Get out." I ordered. "I swear to god I'll kill you."

"Relax, honey, I'm not here for you. Where's Ross?"

"He doesn't live here." I said.

"Lies! I saw him come here the other day." He said. "And quite frankly, you could do a lot better."

"And I have." I stated. "Ross is an employee, that's all."

Lilli choked on her tears as she began to cry, both of us looked over at her. "Adorable, is she his?" Jace asked, stepping over to the cot.

I jumped over the bed, slashing the miniature knife at him. He stumbled out of the door and I kept walking with the knife until he reached the stairs where I kicked him back and he toppled down them.

My gaze wouldn't leave his body which lay at the bottom of the stairs, still. My eyes were wide and my whole body trembled.

A slam sounded against the door. "Maddy!" Will called from the other side. "Maddy, are you okay?"

"I- I'm fine." I said, slowly stepping down the stairs.

Another slam came from the door and it sprung open, slamming against the wall on the other side.

Jace's eyes sprung open and he jumped up, sprinting out the back way that he'd entered.

Will and Ross stood in the doorway, Will just looked up at me with sorrow in his eyes and Ross bolted after him.

Lilli still cried but I couldn't go back to her, I couldn't even move.

"Maddy, are you okay?" Will asked, stepping towards the stairs.

I began walking down them, my pace increasing with each step until I reached the bottom and wrapped my arms around him. One arm snaked around my waist, holding me close and his other hand slowly removed the knife from my hand before pushing the blade down and hugging me tighter.
