Before Everything

Chapter 8

The next day we were supposed to have a girls night with Nia but she was late as always. I dialed her number and called her.

"Are you here soon? My parents left an hour ago!"
"Yeah yeah, hold on I'm almost there!"
"Oh, I can see you!"
"Okay, I'm gonna hang up now. See ya soon."

Finally, I have been waiting for so long. She said she would be here at 6.30 p.m. and it's almost 8.00 p.m.! How can she be over an hour late! Okay, we're talking about Nia though, so I'm not that surprised.

My phone beeped. I got a message from an unknown number.

Unknown: Hi this is Mike

I wonder what he would possibly want but smiled at the same time.

Me: Hi?
Mike: U left your jacket at the party
Me: Well we left there so quickly so I had a feeling I didn't have everything with me
Mike: Yeah, I can give it to u on Monday at school. Is it okay if I bring it to your locker?
Me: Well I'm not at school on Monday but u can give it to Nia
Mike: I would like to give it to u f2f

4 minutes

Mike: U still there?

What. Just. Happened. He wants to meet me again. That's like a date. Is it? No. It's not. Gosh, I have to stop overreacting.

Me: Okay well if u could keep it as long as I'm back at school?
Mike: Sounds good :) See ya
Me: See ya :)

Me: Btw, how did u get my number?
Mike: I have my ways ;)
Me: Okay :D

Well, that wasn't weird at all. I didn't have that much time to process everything.
The doorbell rang and finally, Nia was here. I went downstairs and opened the door.

"Finally!" I said with a frown on my face.
"Oh, I'm not THAT late," Nia said giving me a sheepish smile as she came inside.
"Not that late?! You are over an hour late!" I said as we walked to my room so that Nia can leave her bag there.
"Okay sorry," Nia said, actually apologizing.
"It's fine. I was just messing with you, I knew you would be late so I invited you to come an hour earlier than needed," I said laughing a little.
"WHAT! Okay, that was probably a good call," Nia said as we went back downstairs to go get the snacks I bought and to go watch a movie.
"I know," I said proudly. "I know you too well my dear friend."
She rolled her eyes and pinched me. That's what we do.

"Okay, so what movie are we going to watch?" I asked Nia.
"I don't know. But no sad films, please! And nothing too boring," Nia said.
We went over to the couch and sat down.

I opened Netflix and started scrolling through to find a good movie to watch.
"How about Dear John?" I asked.
"Really Maddie, did you even hear what I just said?" Nia asked me with a shocked face.
"I was just kidding," I said.
"I know you were," Nia said as she poured herself some Coke.
"Okay so now on a serious note, how about Suicide Squad?" I asked her.
"Nah, I've already seen it," Nia said as she threw a candy in her mouth.

We both suggested a movie after a movie but nothing was something that we both wanted to watch, or the other one had already seen the movie.
"There is really nothing good on Netflix right now," I said after we had been searching for 20 minutes already.
"Okay let's switch to Viaplay?" Nia asked and I agreed.

"Okay so let's see," I said as we started to look for a movie.
"Oh, how about Salt?" Nia asked.
"What's that? Never heard about it," I asked Nia.
"It's an agent movie. In my opinion probably the best one," Nia said.
"Not really my style, but sure let's watch that," I said.
