Nia: YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHAT RUMOUR I JUST HEARD!!!!
~~~~~~~
I rubbed the sleep dust out of my eyes and replied to her with a slow, sleepy writing.
Me: Nia. I. Am. Sleeping. This better be good...
Nia: Oh, believe me, it's good. It's wonderful. It's HUGE.
Me: Okay well tell me then
Nia: Yeah yeah just about to tell ya. U know my friend Kate?
Me: Hmm, yeah I know her. She's in the same biology class as u.
Nia: Yep! So her best friend's brother saw Michael Blevins at the library today with a stunning girl!!!O-oh. Awkwaard.
Me: So? He was at the library with a girl, that's not a big deal.
Nia: O-M-G MADDIE!!! Ofc it's a big deal. Michael Blevins is known for not wanting to be in a relationship with anyone. And NOW he was at the library, with a GIRL!! U do know what that means?!?
Me: ??I had a lump in my throat.
Nia: MICHAEL BLEVINS IS SEEING SOMEONE!! THE HOTTEST BOY IN OUR SCHOOL IS SEEING SOMEONE! SOME LUCKY GIRL GETS TO BE HIS GIRL!!!!!!
Yep, I definitely had a lump in my throat.
Me: Maybe they were just casually studying together
Nia: There's no such thing as 'casually studying together'. Maddie, think about it. They are so into each other.
Me: So u don't know who the girl is?
Nia: No, my sources didn't know her either.
Me: Okay.I was relieved that nobody knew her. I mean me. Nobody knew me.
Nia: Why? DO U KNOW HER?!
Me: No. I was just wondering.I wasn't the confessing best friend that moment and decided not to tell Nia. I don't even know why. I just didn't want to.
Me: I'll go back to sleep now, see you at school tomorrow. Ily!
Nia: Yeah bye. Ily <3The next week
I opened the school doors with a little struggle. They are not as light as they look. First thing I could see was students rushing from their classes to the hallway while I was walking to my locker. Students seemed so happy to get out of the classes and have some time to hang out for a while with their friends before getting back to class. I wish I had something like that.
Friends, at school. Even though, I have Nia but we don't see each other at school that much since she's older. I have no idea what I'm going to do without her when she graduates.I walked down the stairs and towards my locker. I opened it and took my books and checked my makeup from a small mirror that I had put in my locker. I wanted to see if it still looked nice or if I at least looked like a reasonable human.
All of the sudden the noises in the hallway changed. I heard some bouncing and I knew it was the boys. Always with their basketballs and running around. From the crowd, I was able to distinguish HIM. I saw him and I'm pretty sure he saw me looking at him. He probably thought I was staring at him like the others girls were. I'm pretty sure some of the girls were even drooling. But I had to play it cool so I just rolled my eyes and turned away.
"What's up, kiddo?" I heard someone saying while interrupting my thoughts. I turned around facing the sound and there she was, Nia.
"The same usual," I said giving her a small smile.
"Oh, you were so daydreaming. Catch ya!" Nia said trying to make me laugh.
"Oh come on, I was not. I was so thinking about Mr. Field's assignment that he gave us last week. Did you know that Mr. Field had a turtle when he was nine years old?" I said trying to change the subject.
She looked at me with the look that was clearly suspicious.
