The person who was behind me was Nia. She literally gave me a heart attack.
"It's nice to see you too Maddie," Nia said and her voice was dripping with sarcasm.
"I thought you were a murderer or a stalker or something else."
Nia just shrugged and started munching on her sandwich which she just made."You should have seen your face though. Priceless." She started giggling and almost choked on her sandwich. I sighed and gave her a glass of water while hitting her back.
"Thanks Maddie, you're such a babe!" she said cheerfully after she regained her voice.
"I am sorry about scaring you like that." She looked a little guilty.
"Yeah, it's fine. I prefer your company more than a serial killer's anyway."
"Thanks, it's always so nice to know how much I'm being appreciated," Nia pouted like a little kid. We both started munching on our sandwiches and fell into silence. After our little trip to the kitchen, we went back to my room upstairs. I fell asleep quickly and slept very well.
When I woke up I felt well rested. Nia also woke up because I heard her groan and shift her position. Someone knocked on my door.
"Honey, are you and Nia both awake?" My mom's head appeared when she opened the door.
"Yeah, we're both awake," I croaked out.
"Okay good, I have prepared some breakfast."
"We'll be down soon."When we got downstairs, mom was just placing a freshly baked muffin plate on the dining table. She flashed us her typical warm smile and greeted us.
"Good morning! Did you guys sleep well?"
"Yeah, we did. Oh, those muffins look delicious Evelyn!" Nia said and took one muffin and sat down."Thank you, dear Nia. Maddie, honey, have you already packed for your trip?"
"What! What trip?" Nia asked with her mouth full of muffin. Now that I think about it I might have forgotten to mention the trip to her. She was going to kill me because I hadn't mentioned it earlier. But now that I think about it I'm pretty sure that I might have mentioned the trip shortly last night.
"Umm... I'm leaving to Moscow tomorrow," I said carefully watching for her reaction.
"WHAT!! Why didn't you tell me? How long will you stay there?" She gave me a glare. My dad came into the dining room and his tie was a little crooked."Good morning everyone." He gave me a kiss on top of my head. Then he walked to my mom and kissed her to the cheek. My mom smiled and started to fix his tie.
"So what did I miss?" Dad sat down with us and grabbed a muffin.
"Well, I was just about to tell Nia about my trip to Moscow tomorrow."
"Yeah about that, you have to go to the airport by yourself. I can't take you. I have a big surgery tomorrow. We found a massive tumor from one of my longest patient's brain and it's in a really tough place."
"It's okay, don't worry about it. I hope your surgery goes well!"I knew that it will go well. My dad is the best neurosurgeon. He's like Dr. McDreamy in real life.
Nia coughed loudly earning our attention.
"As I was saying, it would be nice to know how long you're going to stay there," she said loudly and gave me a glare.
"I'll be there for a week and I'm leaving tomorrow morning. And don't be such a drama queen. I told it about to you briefly last night. Your we-know-what was just so bad that you couldn't focus..."
"Finally I get some peace from you! And we don't speak about my h... ever again!" she exclaimed giggling.
"It's always so nice to know how much I'm being appreciated," I copied her words from earlier this morning and faked a pout.
"Agh, don't be like that," Nia said giving me a playful slap on the arm. She hates when I'm mocking her fake drama sayings.
