Mike's Pov

"Son, it's time to get up! We're going to visit my mentor today!" dad yelled at me from downstairs and I instantly woke up.
What can you do, he has such a loud voice.

"You're what?" I mumbled from my pillow.
"My mentor! I worked in his law firm when I was studying as a lawyer and I thought it would be nice if you met him too. Since you know, it's almost February. And your SAT's are in May so I think it's good that you'll get to know to your future job a bit better, even though you still have four years of college ahead of you", he said and smiled.

He looked so happy. He's so looking forward to our co-operate days in his company. And I still have to say that I don't feel interested at all. I couldn't care less about being a lawyer. I like to watch lawyer series and I do find different crimes and trials interesting and yeah, sometimes I have thought that it could be interesting to work as a lawyer but that's not my calling. But I can't say that to dad. Maddie has told me many times that I should tell him. Tell him that I don't want to be a part of his company and crush his dreams. I'm so scared. Imagine my situation; my dad has dreamed to have a partner from me since I born. He has put aside money to my personal saving account which is opened when I become his partner. I can use all the money how I want. But I believe that he wants me to buy stocks or hire the top names for our company. He has always dreamed that I will do all my internships in his company, work there for summers and then finally he will hire me as a regular lawyer and when the time is right, I will be a junior partner and then a senior partner and soon I will have my name on the wall. And when I think about it, it actually sounds quite good. A father and a son keeping a shared law firm up together. That's great but not for me. I think Max could do the job so much better than me.

"Oh, yeah... yay!" I said and smiled a small smile.

We drove to his "mentor's" office, I was feeling so bored. I texted Maddie.
Me: Hi going to dad's mentor's office
Maddie: Your dad's what?
Me: Exactly...
Maddie: Something to do with his law firm?
Me: Mhm, yeah. Dad wants me to meet this guy since I'm going to study my future job soon. He wants me to hear some kind of tips or sth like that...
Maddie: Mike... you still haven't told your dad
Me: Well, working on that
Maddie: Tell him today, it will go just fine. He'll understand that it's best for you
Me: Yeah I really should do it...
Maddie: I'm here for you. The longer you wait the harder it is
Mike: I know... I will tell him today. After the whole meeting. Ily
Maddie: Ily 2

I felt relieved. Maddie makes me always so calm. I'm so happy I have her.

"Mike. Mike. Mike!" dad yelled.
"What? Oh, sorry. I zoned for a second."
"Yeah, I see that. Anyway, we're at our destination!"

I turned my head to see the building. It was a skyscraper. Windows everywhere. You could see many different offices there. ICT companies, law firms, accountant offices, commercial firms... the list is neverending. I've never looked at a skyscraper so closely. It looked huge.

"Wow..."
"I know right!? This is going to be your, I mean our workplace someday. I've planned to buy a whole floor for our company."

Great. Now try to tell him how I really feel. 'Yeah, dad... I actually would hate working as a lawyer in our shared company.' That would kill pops.

"Yeah, sure..." I just mumbled.

We got out of our car and walked to the building. There was even a security man.
"We're here to see Michael Lauderson", dad claimed.
"Do you have your security card?" the guard asked.
"Well, no. But your guards have always let me in without it."
"Sorry, no can do. We have tightened our security policy. No card, no entrance."
"But you know me, I'm Michael's friend. I'm not a terrorist."
"Sir, that t-word is forbidden here so I'm asking you to lower your voice."
"Call to Michael, he will let us in."
"I'm a bit suspicious..."
